Patient Service Representative Job Opening in Poughkeepsie, New york - Represents the first contact between providers, staff members and patients. Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner. Registers patients according to appointment schedule, and obtains all pertinent information for the account and medical record. Treats patients, family members or other clients with concern, empathy, cheerful, friendly, caring and helpful manner. Schedules appointments based upon the patients? needs and availability. Works and communicates with staff members in all departments and satellite offices. Respects patient?s confidentiality, privacy and communicates with them in a courteous & respectful manner.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: One year related experience preferably in a medical office setting. Knowledge of a multi-line telephone system, medical terminology, computer experience, pediatric protocols, and multi provider schedule. Appropriate education may be substituted for patient service experience in a healthcare environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Language Skills: Read, and interpret safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, protocols, and procedure manuals. Read, understand, and follow oral and/or written instructions. Write and/or type routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information and respond to questions from doctors, managers, co-workers, patients, and parents/guardians. Ability to document payroll records via time clock and/or time sheets.
Mathematical Skills: None.
Reasoning Ability: Interpret, adapt & apply guidelines & procedures. Establishing & maintaining effective working relationships with fellow employees in all departments; with patients and their parents/guardians. Recognize problems & recommend solutions.
Computer Skills: Basic computer. i.e. windows, e-mail, intranet and Microsoft programs.
Telephone Skills: Answering the telephone in a pleasant, helpful manner. Handle most phone calls within an average of two minutes. Manage difficult or emotional customer situations. Speaking clearly & persuasively; in positive and/or negative situations; while listening and getting clarification.
Working Environment: Medical office environment; exposure to communicable diseases. Work is done in the phone center and involves frequent telephone contact. Ability to react calmly & efficiently under pressure especially in emergency situations. Ability to maintain speed & efficiently in processing phone calls. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Environment can be stressful.
Physical Demands: Requires sitting for long periods of time scheduling appointments in the computer system. Frequent telephone contact. Hearing must be in normal range for telephone contact. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Occasionally lifting boxes or supplies up to 40lbs. Occasionally required working extended hours to cover all shifts: days, evenings, weekends, on-call & holidays. Incumbent will be required to work at any of our offices and be responsible for own transportation.
