Chief Financial Officer Job Opening in Kansas City, Missouri - Reporting to the President & CEO, and serving as a member of the Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (KCHPC) senior management team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works with others to assure achieve the mission and vision of the organization through prudent stewardship and direction of Kansas City Hospice?s resources. The CFO is responsible for guiding smooth and efficient operations in several business functions including Accounting, Billing, Finance, Budgeting, Information Technology, and Investment Management. Has responsibility for cash management, contract administration and management including commercial insurance contracts, vendor and other contracts. The CFO provides oversight, cost, financial and operational analysis, departmental planning and guidance, and is responsible for regulatory compliance of the financial functions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Accounting
Directs development of and monitors achievement of annual financial and department management goals.
Supports the planning function of the organization and provides financial analysis of projects and activities. Prepares, or directs preparation of, financial analyses, cash forecasts, and proactively initiates financial analyses based on review of financial, operational and statistical information aimed at achieving efficiencies, maximizing reimbursements and complying with regulations.
Oversees financial controls on all accounting functions. Is responsible for accurate and timely preparation and submission of all monthly reports and statistics.
Oversees efficient department functions, achievement of targeted ratios, and general operating procedures.
Acts as financial liaison with external agencies including Medicare fiscal intermediary, contractors, payors and auditors. Uses industry knowledge to represent hospice fiscal issues, especially reimbursement, to achieve most favorable outcomes and make recommendations to executive staff.
Coordinates annual budget preparation including capital expense projections. Assures thorough and accurate completion of all necessary budgetary documents based on system and home care parameters.
Provide teaching and interpretation of financial and statistical data to managers and others.
Staff the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors and reports financial statement information to the Board of KCH and the KCH Foundation.
Develop and implement initiatives to reduce cost, enhance revenue and assist in helping to assure a strong and stable organization.
Is responsible for instituting strong financial/internal controls and oversees the annual audit, tax returns and cost report processes.
Contracting
Develop and implement a third party payor contract development, monitoring, and relationship maintenance program through no less often than annual meetings or other contract related communications with third party payers.
Work with other departments to develop partnerships with insurance companies for both ongoing reimbursement and special programs.
Analyze major third party payor contracts on an annual basis and other payers as needed.
Manage contracts with hospitals, nursing homes, and vendors including DME, pharmacy, and others.
Manage contracts with medical directors
Coordinates or handles the completion of Requests for Proposal for vendors or products.
Investment Guidance and Oversight
Organizes the Investment Committee including the development and refinement of Investment Policy, communications and meetings.
Serves as liaison to Investment Consultant/Advisor, and manages the associated relationship, communications, and reports.
Establishes appropriate endowment policies or other related policies and practices.
Reports to Boards the investment returns and comparison to benchmarks.
Finance & Liability Insurance
Projects cash flow for the organization and coordinates all borrowing and related activity.
Monitors covenants and requirements of lenders, reporting to and alerting Board and CEO to any concerns.
Oversee cash and investments.
Works with Manager of Facilities and Operations and CEO, obtain and manage the liability insurances for KCH and KCH Foundation
Regulatory
Responsible for HIPAA concerns including Business Associate Agreements, compliance with billing standards under HIPAA.
Responsible for billing compliance with Medicare rules and other requirements.
Information Technology
Oversees the IT department, related outsourcing including contracts and overall security of the organization. Partners with the CEO and COO to ensure appropriate technology in deployed to ensure staff is productive.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Business, Accounting or related field
CPA or MBA
Ability to manage work processes and people.
Health care accounting cost, reporting and billing experience
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Extensive knowledge of reimbursement and regulations
Strong working knowledge of various computer programs, specifically spreadsheets with Microsoft programs preferred
Ability to balance wide range of projects simultaneously
