Assistant Principal - Lincoln West Science & Health Job Opening in Cleveland, Ohio - Lincoln West Science & Health seeks a full-time Assistant Principal, who will be responsible for creating strong school culture and an academic program clearly focused on improving teaching practice tied to measurable student achievement gains. Sucessful candiates selected for this cohort will be responsible for ensuring that 9-12 students at LWSH receive the quality of education that will lead them to compete in, and contribute to, the 21st century global economy. Successful candidates must be instructionally strong, confident in family and student engagement, staff instructional support and evaluations, coaching, and vigorous leadership through the change process at LWSH. In addition; strong leaders will be reflective on their own practice with others and individually to understand how their actions impact student achievement. Beginning this fall, students who choose the Lincoln-West Science and Health program will benefit from a firmly committed partnership with MetroHealth. Each scholar will have access to the MetroHealth Main Campus and explore a variety of healthcare fields and those that support the healthcare system including: human resources, information technology, marketing and communication and the food industry. MetroHealth professionals will serve as mentors to raise career awareness. Internships and networking opportunities will be managed by the selected Assistant Principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Principal will report to Principal Michelle Kirkwood Hughes. The Principal will have the primary responsibility for establishing her school as an active learning center with the additional support of Action Team Coaches, Business & Finance Partners. Selected candidates are expected to focus on student engagement, professional support for teachers, instructional practices that lead to dramatic academic progress, and measurable results and lead to better outcomes for our schools and scholars. Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Principal include, but are not limited to:
Instructional Leadership
Passionate belief in the capacity of all children to learn and succeed and a sense of urgency about making that real for CMSD students
Instructional leadership, including knowledge of concrete methods for successfully raising student achievement
Practical understanding of how to evaluate and support teachers, make them instructional partners, and help them with teaching and classroom management strategies appropriate to a learning-centered school culture
Motivate faculty and help them use data to inform instructional decisions as partners in creating a learning-centered school culture
Curriculum & Assessment Leadership
Hold staff members accountable for achieving results using The District?s Teacher Development And Evaluation System (TDES)
Ability to successfully demonstrate understanding of TDES and PBIS in alignment with the Cleveland Plan
Personal sense of accountability around student academic progress, as measured by national and state benchmarks
Implement and direct the implementation District and/or Board of Education policies and procedures
School Culture & Character Development Leadership
Build relationships with all stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, parents, funders, board members, the school district, and the community.
Implementation of school culture procedures, including family engagement, student engagement & experiences, student recruitment, coordination of partnership development
Experience working effectively with urban schools, students and families, and outside partners
School Operations
Co-Manage academic and cultural programming in all grade levels
Co-Manage a student-based budget for school building
Assist in hiring, developing, and managing staff to grow leaders from within the school and create a culture of continuous professional development.
Co-Coordinate all logistics and planning for end-of-year trips and quarterly team and family trips, including planning and implementing trip preparations throughout the year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master?s degree required ; 5 yr Professional Principal Certification or eligibility for Alternative certification as required by Ohio Department of Education.
Three to five years of K-12 classroom teaching experience.
Building or district level administrative experience strongly preferred.
Ability to successfully demonstrate understanding of The District?s Teachers Evaluation System in alignment with the Cleveland Plan.
Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily with minority and low-income students
Experience working effectively with urban schools, students and families, and outside partners with demonstrated exemplary results
Record of success in leading adults; prior experience with direct management and supervision
A passionate belief in the capacity of all children to learn and succeed and a sense of urgency about making that real for CMSD students
Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school, and to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of CMSD scholars
Special training and/or experience with school turnaround highly desirable
