A well-established DC based Real Estate Investment and Property Management firm is seeking a competent, detail oriented and hands-on Accounting Manager who has been intimately involved with all aspects of the financial accounting cycle for real estate and can operate independently as a member of the firm?s senior staff.
Position Overview: The Accounting Manager will report to the firm?s CFO and will have primary responsibility for managing all financial related activities of the organization and will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate accounting of financial results for the firm as well as its underlying real estate investments. Responsibilities include ensuring timely and accurate accounting and reporting of financial results to management and outside investors, overseeing and managing outsourced financial and accounting functions, reporting results lenders in order to comply with loan covenants, monitoring liquidity of the management company and the underlying firm investments, assisting with the completion of audits and tax return preparation with the firm?s outside accountants, and managing the day to day accounting for multiple real estate related entities. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of financial information provided to internal and external parties, including lenders and external auditors and tax preparers.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Oversee the full range of financial and accounting functions for the various management companies. This includes the financial planning and budgeting, recording financial activity in the firm?s accounting system, maintenance and reconciliation of general ledgers, preparation of monthly reports.
Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting for the firm?s real estate investments prepared by outside accounting firms by developing a good working relationship with the individuals responsible for the accounting and financial reporting.
The firm provides a number audited financial statements for various investors. Work with the firm?s various outside auditors to complete audits in a timely manner. This includes producing or, in the case of investments with outsourced accountings, the coordination of financial statements and footnotes, account reconciliations, and the development of audit support documents as appropriate.
Work with the firm?s outside tax preparers in order to provide tax information to investors in a timely manner. Responsible for the filing of tax returns, distribution of tax related information to investors, assistance with investor tax questions, etc.
Prepare information for lenders as required, monitor loan covenants to ensure that the firm?s management companies and real estate investments remain in compliance.
Analyze financial results in order to provide clear and concise explanations of results to management and investors. Provide advice and guidance on the impact of decisions on financial results.
Coordinate treasury functions for the firm and its real estate investments, including working with banks to optimize cash management.
Assist in investor relations activities.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting is required.
Significant experience in the real estate industry.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with strong attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and communications skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
C.P.A. highly preferred.
Strong excel skills required, experience in Yardi or other real estate accounting software is a plus.
