Senior Accountant Job Opening in Oakland, California - Position Summary: The Senior Accountant?s role is to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, the efficiency of accounting department operations, and enhancing internal control. The Senior Accountant will complete close process, review accounting work of other Finance Department staff, and complex accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely completion and distribution of information to end users, through technical coaching, workflow redistribution, and review.

Responsibilities: All responsibilities will be in line with the Council on Accreditation (COA) standards including:
Overall Leadership:
Review work of Accounting Department teammates, including GL, AR, AP, Payroll and Benefits
Essential Responsibilities:
Monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
Monthly closing journal vouchers and general ledger account analysis.
Prepared and/or review monthly and quarterly billings.
Prepare and analyze fund and financial reports for reasonableness and accuracy, make corrections as needed.
Prepare board committee packages
In charge of annual audit and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations.
Prepare external program reports and regulatory fillings
Work with department and senior management to help prepare annual and contract budget and quarterly forecast
In charge of maintaining and updating accounting policies and procedures
Drive continuous improvement of processes
Design, implement, maintain and upgrade efficient enterprise accounting and financial planning and analysis systems

Month- and Year-end close is completed in a timely manner and all data is accurate. Financial statements and reports are provided to relevant users in a readily understandable format to be used to make timely strategic decisions.
Accounting department demonstrates excellent customer service orientation in all of its transactions with internal and external partners.
Policies and procedures are well thought through and implement in a consistent manner.

B.A. degree in accounting or finance
Minimum of 6 years progressively responsible accounting experience through financial statements, minimum 4 years in nonprofit fund accounting.
Experience with fund accounting systems, preferably Sage MIP.
Knowledge and experience implementing accounting internal control procedures.
Knowledge of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations.
Experience in system implementation including Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis tools
Strong interpersonal skills and work effectively with diversified internal and external stakeholders
Be flexible and open minded to different ideas
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to perform under tight deadlines
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Understanding and commitment to the mission and goals of Catholic Charities.
