Finance Director Job Opening in Bardstown, Kentucky - SUMMARY : The Director of Finance (DOF) assumes responsibility of the Congregational Office of Finance Administration (COFA) under the direction of the Congregational Treasurer.
The DOF is responsible for assisting the leadership with the stewardship, long-term planning and fiduciary administration associated with the financial assets of the Congregation. Responsibilities include overall supervision of the finance, accounting and financial reporting activities, financial analysis and interpretation, forecasting, insurance, tax compliance, as well as rendering and implementing fiscal recommendations that reflect fidelity to the mission of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the Director of Finance for the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth guided by the Congregation's mission and values.
Evaluate, interpret and identify fiscal, societal and demographic trends that impact the Congregation's financial planning.
Provide quality work environment through effective team leadership and demonstrated positive attitude.
Coordinate legal matters related to the Nazareth Literary and Benevolent Institution, including the acquisition and sale of property and the negotiation of contracts.
Maintain good communication with leadership, the staff of COFA, the three Provinces and other offices as appropriate.
Participate in national and regional religious organizations through membership in Resource Center for Religious Institutes (RCRI), Congregations of Religious Treasurers (CORT)-TOK Region VI and serve on Boards or Committees as possible and maintains good relationships.
Provide adequate protection for all tangible and intangible assets.
Safeguard all documents within the Finance Office which are of legal, canonical, or financial importance.
Maintain appropriate document retention schedules.
Give indirect supervision to the following funds: General, Ministry, and Special Projects.
Oversee the preparation of the NLBI Consolidated budget and regular financial reports.
Give oversight and supervision to investments and debt.
Chair the Investment Advisory Committee and serve on the Finance Committee of NLBI.
Advise on Community Economic Development Investments (CEDIs).
Give oversight and direction on corporate bank accounts.
Provide oversight in the filing of all necessary government, census, and religious finance reports.
Give periodic updates to Treasurer of the Congregation and Nazareth Literary and Benevolent Institution (NLBI).
Collaborate with the Western, Bangalore, and Patna Provinces? Treasurers.
Direct the selection, development, and supervision of the Congregational Finance Office personnel.
Empower staff and ensure efficiency in operations through delegation and realignment of responsibility assignments as appropriate.
Report to the NLBI Board at its biannual meetings.
Work with auditors, attorneys, and consultants as authorized.
Maintain and update the COFA Procedures Manual.
Approve certain accounts payable requisitions and journal entries.
Indirect oversight on deposit and disbursement of congregational donations.
Facilitate on-site Notary Public services.
Develop and maintain projection software relevant for the needs of NLBI.
Assure compliance for tax-exemption status, Official Catholic Directory (OCD) inclusion, IRS 501(c) (3) status, Form 990 exclusion, etc.
Conduct studies, participate in projects, and carry out special assignments or requests as directed by leadership.
Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Bachelor?s degree in a related field. Master?s degree in Business/Finance Administration or related degree, preferred. Minimum of five (5) years in a senior management position. Minimum of ten (10) years in supervisory capactiy with preference for nonprofit organizational experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to gain understanding of the mission, charism, values and language of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Ability to analyze financial, legal and taxation issues and prepare oral and written reports related to these areas. Ability to demonstrate financial forecasting, analytical and synthesizing skills. Ability to be creative and innovative in long range planning. Possess strong organizational, administrative and leadership skills. Initiative and self-direction. Ability to communicate and relate with a wide variety of constituents with varying degrees of financial expertise. Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple projects. Ability to impart financial and stewardship concepts to members of the Congregation, and others as appropriate. Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion with confidential information. Ability to learn new information related to the position. Ability to function in a fast changing environment. Working knowledge of computers and financial software. Ability to travel to meetings for the congregation.
: Certified Public Accountant or other professional certification in finance/accounting field preferred.
