Payroll Specialist Job Opening in Mankato, Minnesota - Abdo, Eick & Meyers is a progressive, full-service CPA firm that caters to individuals, businesses, nonprofits and local governments. We are currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the AEM Workforce Solutions group in the Mankato office. Under general supervision, performs a variety of payroll services work. Duties include servicing an assigned client portfolio by inputting client data, balancing payroll runs, producing federal and state tax payments and answering client questions.
Key responsibilities may also include:
Ensure timely and accurate input of clients payroll data into the Firm?s software application; including salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, and employee deductions or adjustments.
Reconcile payroll prior to submission and validate confirmed reports
Print and assemble pay statements and payroll checks per client
Provide quality, proactive and ongoing client service to maintain a high rate of client retention
Maintain knowledge of the payroll processing system and understand wage and tax laws
Correspond with federal, state, and local tax agencies on behalf of clients to resolve problems
Research and resolve client and system problems to ensure accurate payroll reports and tax returns
Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
Calculate and complete Form 941 and state quarterly returns for full-service and after the fact clients
Initiate client federal and state payroll tax payments
Maintain and update client folders/engagement binders to ensure efficient operations
Prepare Form W-2?s along with other annual Federal and State payroll tax returns
Complete additional client payroll documents as needed (i.e. Workers comp audits, tip allocation, misc)
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Payroll processing experience preferred along with experience in a customer service environment requiring solid problem-solving abilities
Working knowledge of payroll best practices including strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
Capable of performing and explaining to clients payroll and tax computations
Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel
Proven ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and 2 to 3 years related payroll and software experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
