Grill Cook Job Opening in Topeka, Kansas - A Federal Government Agency needs a Full-Time Cook in Topeka, KS, Working with and for the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) in the Veterans Healthcare System, providing quality service to our nation's veterans.
The incumbent performs a variety of cooking duties in support of VCS food production services and will assists with the preparation, presentation and subsequent serving of prepared food items. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in daily interactions with customers, i.e., communication, listening, empathy, conflict resolutions, and maintaining a positive attitude.
The incumbent performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as preparing and serving customers from the grill. Experience preparing and cooking food items. Knowledge and experience of proper dating/FIFO, and temperature monitoring to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
Working knowledge of methods and procedures related to food preparation and ability to apply such information to cook a variety of prepared foods. Ability to read and interpret instructions, and perform simple calculations used in food preparation and ability to follow standard recipes. Also possess knowledge in the following areas: food service, operational knowledge of a variety of kitchen equipment; and exposure to proper food handling and sanitation procedures. Incumbent should be able to prepare salads and/or desserts for special/nutrient modified diets.
The position requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects over 40 pounds with assistance. Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures and also be subject to slippery/wet floors, constant noise, possible steam/grease burns, usual minor cuts and exposure to cleaning chemicals.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred
