Accounting Assistant - Finance Job Opening in Lansing, Michigan - Lansing, MI (Corporate)

Summary:
The Accounting Assistant will assist in many of the financial and accounting aspects of the business, prepare necessary reports, and provide regular input to members of the Accounting Department on important financial / accounting matters. The Accounting Assistant will also serve as a liaison between the Accounting team and other departments in terms of accounts payable, accounts receivable and other accounting related topics.

Duties/Essential Job Functions:
Accounts Payable

Sort, distribute and track incoming AP invoices to various departments for approval

Prepare AP invoices for GL coding, and review for appropriate backup documentation and approvals

Enter invoices into accounting software

Assist with preparation for AP check runs

File AP paid invoices in AP files

Setup and collection of required documents for new vendors

Maintain vendor files and 1099 requirements

Update various spreadsheets related to accounts payable

Communication (verbal and written) with vendors as needed

Accounts Receivable

Create sales orders in accounting software

Post sales orders in accounting software

Enter cash receipts from bank deposits and ACH?s

Update various spreadsheets related to accounts receivable

Communication (verbal and written) with customers and franchisee?s as needed

Corporate Credit Cards

Reconcile statements with receipts and code to proper department expense account

Update various schedules pertaining to expenses and travel

Assist card holders with corporate site and reporting as needed

Bank Deposits

Prepare bank deposits slips

Take deposits to bank

Year End Tasks

Assist in preparation of audit schedules

Assist in year end budget reporting

Assist in preparing 1099?s for distribution

Assist in document management for AP files

Other Tasks

Maintain schedules for various reporting and tracking purposes

Other tasks may be assigned to assist accounting team as needed.

Job Requirements

Associate?s degree or combination of education and equivalent experience is highly preferred.
A minimum of five years accounting experience is preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Great listening and organizational skills
Adept in problem analysis and solving
Possess attention to detail, initiative and sound judgment
Ability to be resilient and adapt

Must be proficient with the following Microsoft applications:
Excel
Word
Outlook
