SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of the President, the Vice President of Business and Finance is responsible for accurately accounting and administering the financial resources of Pillar College for assuring budget compliance and financial stability. He or she is a member of the President?s Cabinet and Leadership Team and is responsible for the implementation and oversight of policies, personnel, and procedures in finance, human resources, and business operations. The Vice President of Business and Finance provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight in fiscal stewardship and human resources, and is the institution?s Chief Financial Officer.

WORK PERFORMED:
Strategy
Provide operational, financial, and strategic counsel to the President and to the Board of Trustees; partner with the other members of the President Cabinet and Leadership Team to address key issues as they arise.
Oversee long-term budgetary planning in alignment with Pillar College strategy.
Represents the administration as an ex-officio member of the Administrative Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Engage the board?s Administration Committee and President?s Cabinet around issues, trends, and changes in the operating environment and operating model.
Financial and Operational Management
Lead annual institutional budgeting. Collaborate with the other members of the senior team and their reports in developing specific programs, sites, and department budgets and financial tracking tools.
Oversee the preparation and approval of all interim and annual financial statements and metrics for the board and executive management, as appropriate.
Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
Implement and monitor all control procedures
Approve (with collaboration with the President?s Cabinet) and review all significant institutional contracts, liaising as necessary with outside counsel
Manage the college facilities and equipment and associated leases and service agreements
Assist Enrollment Services department, as requested, regarding student accounts and scholarships and grants data
Serve as the liaison to the college auditors and to the Board?s Audit Committee. Coordinate all annual audit activities. Act as the organization?s chief control officer
Act as the college?s chief risk management and compliance officer. Work in conjunction with the Administrative Committee of the Board to comply with all legal requirements and to identify and mitigate legal, financial, operational, campus safety/security, and other enterprise risks
Coordinate all insurance
Team-building
Develop and manage a high performance and customer-focused team, which includes two direct reports, consultants, and vendors. Guide or participate in larger multi-disciplinary teams outside direct span of control
Engage other members of the senior management team to ensure that all financial and operating practices support PC strategic agenda and activities
Human Resources
Administer employee and human resources efforts
Supervise payroll.
Administer and respond to changes in all regulatory reporting requirements related to employment
Create and deliver talent management solutions that align with the institution?s mission and service standards
Establish and administer the maintenance of comprehensive personnel records for all active and inactive College employees
Develop, implement, and maintain procedures to ensure confidentiality of all employment materials, files, and records
Effectively bring onboard and orient new administrative employees
Administer employee benefit programs
Develop and administer an Employee Appreciation and Recognition program
Direct the development of and maintain job descriptions
Oversee job evaluation procedure and instruments
Manage contract negotiations and contract administration
Serve as College Ethics Officer and partner with Title IX Administrator
Serve as liaison with college attorneys regarding Employment Law matters
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience :
Demonstrated an understanding of and commitment to PC?s ethos, mission, vision and institutional goals.
Proven senior level management and organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple departments, projects, and deadlines.
Proven ability in finance and human resources with experience in planning and implementing stewardship initiatives and fiscal management.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of information technology and information systems and their application to the Business Office and the institution overall.
Understanding of Human Resource management and its role in supporting the mission of the institution.
Education :
Master?s degree or higher in finance, business, management or related field, preferably MBA in finance and/or CPA
Relevant senior level experience in finances of higher education or other not-for-profit industries
Christian Life :
Must have proven Christian character and spiritual maturity.
Alignment with the college?s statement of faith.
Interpersonal Skills :
Commitment to teamwork and consensus building and a desire to work in a collaborative academic environment.
Ability to communicate with and relate to vendors, staff, and board members on a personal basis with integrity.
Flexible as to hours worked and available for weekend travel, evening meetings and extended trips as necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
College campus environment. Private office. High degree of contact with other people. Occasional travel involved.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires 90% sitting, 10% standing or walking
