Director of Community Engagement Job Opening in seattle, Washington - Director of Community Engagement DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT This exempt position is responsible for managing all community engagement activities as they relate to communications, marketing, public relations, special events, and volunteer program activities of Northwest Harvest. This position leads the Community Engagement Department, serves as a member of the agency's management team, and reports to the Executive Director. Responsibilities: Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive and strategic community engagement and agency marketing plan which includes but is not limited to: - Stewarding and advancing Northwest Harvest?s image and branding - Devising and promoting an annual message to reflect the year?s priorities - Integrating communications activities with fundraising objectives by working in close collaboration with the Directors of Agency Relations and Development. - Engaging media partners in annual food drive events statewide - Launching a Northwest Harvest statewide food drive (signature event) - Embracing a Social Media presence statewide - Growing Volunteer Program; cultivation, solicitation, recognition and communication with volunteers. - Managing agency website and content. - Managing creation of Annual Report. - Managing creation of quarterly agency newsletter and Volunteer Program e-newsletter. - Targeting marketing efforts for each constituency group, such as individuals, corporations, the media, the agricultural industry and religious organizations - Securing media relationships and sponsorships - Managing creation of all collateral materials including brochures and giveaways. On an ongoing basis, analyze the success of all efforts considering the resources required for implementation. This includes but is not limited to: - Devising effective evaluation techniques for all community engagement activities relating to special events, volunteers, the website and the newsletters. - Working with each staff member to create an annual plan of activities that maximizes the department?s overall goals, objectives and potential. Set and track quarterly, annual and long-term community engagement goals to ensure success is achieved and goals secured. Expand Northwest Harvest?s presence and opportunities for community engagement throughout the state. Serve as a key spokesperson for the agency. Develop strategies to maximize the use of food drives as both a communications tool and a donor cultivation tool. Work with external technical and design consultants to manage ongoing web-site improvement projects. Management and Leadership: Create and lead a cohesive, integrated and high-performing team in the Community Engagement Department which includes the communications, marketing, public relations, special events and volunteer program functions at Northwest Harvest by providing direct supervision of four staff members ? Special Events & Corporate Relations Manager, Communications Manager, Publications & Website Manager, and the Volunteer Program Manager ? exercising oversight of all departmental activities, offering regular feedback, providing opportunities for training and growth, hiring as necessary and conducting annual performance appraisals. Create an annual workplan for the department based on the approved objectives of the agency?s strategic plan. Review all public facing materials produced Agency-wide for consistency of message and fit with the agency?s strategic plan; consulting with senior management as appropriate. Coordinate the efforts of the department around specific initiatives, such as constituent relationships, agency brand and moves management. Develop and manage an annual department budget with an emphasis on ROI. Prioritize and monitor the workload of all staff in the department. Work with eastern Washington staff to broaden and deepen relationships and engagement in eastern Washington, most especially Yakima and Spokane. Collaborative Efforts: Serve as a resource to Northwest Harvest's network of member programs on community engagement issues. Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on matters that relate to community engagement. Oversee marketing strategies related to food procurement (i.e. food drives, ag industry initiatives and special events) with the Directors of Warehouse Operations and Food Procurement and Outreach. Work with specialized volunteer groups to build relationships, strengthen fundraising and communications efforts. Work in close collaboration with the Director of Agency Relations on matters regarding advocacy and with the Director of Development on community fundraising initiatives including holiday campaigns, particularly those that relate to the Combined Fund Drives, the Combined Campaign Drives and Microsoft Campaigns. Qualifications: At least seven years of excellent management and supervisory skills and expertise with five or more staff direct reports. At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in the fields of marketing, public relations, communications and / or the nonprofit sector. Proven success in developing community relationships with individuals, foundations, media outlets, corporations, schools and faith based groups. Extensive knowledge of and experience in the full range of branding, marketing, graphic design and communications strategies with an emphasis on volunteer programs and event planning. Demonstrated skill in planning and implementing communications and marketing strategies. Excellent writing, communication, public speaking and presentation skills. Highly organized with strong project management, time and department budgeting management skills; understands department P&L and capital spending. Strong leadership skills; team player with demonstrated ability to successfully lead and develop staff. Experience working with a Board of Directors and other volunteers. Experience with faith-based communities a plus. Strong interpersonal skills; commitment to staff development and donor customer service. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and to work well with a wide range of people, including volunteers, donors, businesses, clients , civic groups and religious organizations. Ability to analyze and evaluate programs. Ability to think strategically and creatively. Proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office and Internet applications required; competency in Raiser's Edge or other non-profit database experience preferred. Bachelor's degree or 10 years of the equivalent relevant experience required. Knowledge of geography of state of Washington. Strong relationships already established in the state of Washington. Demonstrated commitment to poverty issues. Demonstrated competency with and awareness of Social Media and other new media tools.
