Position : Our client is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant. The role of the Senior Cost Accountant will primarily support the company?s commodities - cost accounting function at Corporate Headquarters located in the greater Boston area. This position will report directly to the Grain Accounting Supervisor and will assist in supporting several manufacturing locations throughout the U.S. This person will over-see the month end close process for several product lines and millions of dollars of inventories ensuring appropriate accounting treatment is adhered to throughout the product?s life cycle. The senior cost accountant will also assist in providing in depth analysis to help identify issues and root cause relating to monthly manufacturing performance, inventory control, and Plant spending. The position will support the Grain Supervisor in the preparation and completion of the monthly Margin Contribution Reports and complex commodity, material and manufacturing variances), along with ad hoc assignments as needed . This position interacts internally with all levels of the organization to include operations, sales, and the Commodity Purchasing and Supply Chain Group.
The Senior Cost Accountant will also play a major role in assisting to reconcile month end physical inventory counts ensuring all locations are following strict inventory handling guidelines and over-seeing, evaluating, and identifying significant inventory adjustments. The position may be required to travel to our plant locations once per quarter.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reconciliation of Daily Grain Purchases to physical deliveries
Balance Company-wide Daily Grain Positions to ensure Supply Chain and Sales Teams have complete visibility of on hand inventory quantities and values, including future commodities contract obligations.
Assist in the preparation and completion of the monthly Margin Analysis.
Take a Lead Role in the Monthly Close Process, ensuring all raw material and finished goods have been costed appropriately and Product Margins are reflected as accurately as possible.
Daily reporting of the Incomplete Commodity Contract position
Responsible for bi-monthly sales contract report to senior management
Monthly accounting for and reporting of inter-company sales and costs
Assist in updating and maintaining Bills of Materials, Pricing, and Std. Costs.
Manufacturing Yield reporting and Wheat Mix Variance reporting
Interim Hedge Desk Responsibilities, including maintenance of daily grain position report, recording and communicating daily sales and verification of daily market pricing changes.
Reconciliation of Finished Goods, supplies, treatments, and ingredients
Provide ad hoc cost analysis and support to operating managers, senior operations managers and the executive team
Support CFO, Controller and Accounting team with special projects.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
A minimum of 3-5 years? experience as a cost accountant in a manufacturing environment with emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High level of proficiency in PC spreadsheets and ERP/MRP systems. Experience in Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar complex systems, a very strong plus.
Experience in a business with commodity related costs a very big plus
Possess strong analytical abilities and the capacity to work fast and in an efficient manner.
Proactive, independent thinker who will look for ways to improve existing processes.
Strong self-organization skills with ability to multi-task.
Travel will be required, depending upon project load and responsibilities
