Staff Accountant Job Opening in New Haven, Connecticut - Summary/Objective Staff Accountant works under the supervision of the Fiscal Manager, and supports the Human Resources department. This position will use the Sage Accounting system, creates journal entries, generates financial reports and maintains records. Prepares and analyzes budgets, processes payroll and performs general bookkeeping.
Essential Functions
Processes bi-weekly payroll from beginning to end.
Calculates and records benefits labor allocation in accounting system.
Performs general accounting tasks including accounts payable or recording journal entries.
Processes and reviews invoices and benefit payments.
Uploads payroll entry into the Sage accounting system.
Maintains budget spreadsheet that includes salaries, payroll taxes and fringe allowances.
Calculates and provides staff with annual fringe benefit allowance.
Reviews benefit enrollment forms for accuracy of deductions in payroll systems.
Supplies Executive team with month end reporting, such as;
Headcount report ? to include new hires/terminations.
Benefit Analysis reporting.
Time off Analysis of accrued balances including FMLA.
Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications such as; Excel and Microsoft Word, Accounting software and ADP.
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation in a professional and discrete fashion.
Knowledge of office administration procedures.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting.
Minimum of 3 years? experience in:
Payroll Processing & Administration
Fund Accounting
Non-Profit
Accounts Payable
Federal & State Grants Rules & Regulations
