Cat Care Specialist Job Opening in Arlington, Washington - Founded on the belief that every cat matters, Purrfect Pals is working to end cat homelessness in Puget Sound communities through placement and prevention. There just aren?t enough homes for cats in our area, and we are helping change that. Our cat adoption and rehabilitation programs help place homeless cats, including those with special needs, in loving homes. We work to prevent cat homelessness through our free community spay and neuter program, humane education programs and cat owner support initiatives. Our sanctuary prides itself in providing space for cats with special needs (including those with FIV or Leukemia), and cats with behavioral issues.
We have an opening on our team for a cat lover who shares our vision of a world where there is a home for every cat, even the old, sick and those with special needs.
Our Cat Care Specialists are responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for cats and people and providing exceptional, humane handling and care for all of our cats. They ensure that all of our cats? nutrition, housing and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. In addition, Cat Care Specialists make customer service a high priority, helping guests and potential adopters by giving tours, acting as adoption counselors and introducing them to our cats and the Purrfect Pals mission.
Responsibilities
Responsible for all duties related to the care of shelter animals to include cleaning of cages and rooms, assuring that animals receive food and water, bathing and grooming, and providing humane handling when animals need to be moved. All duties must be performed in accordance with shelter policy and procedures.
Observes and evaluates animals for signs of illness, behavioral problems and stress and reports symptoms to appropriate personnel.
Provide a welcoming environment and excellent customer service to everyone who visits Purrfect Pals including volunteers, foster parents, potential adopters, donors and other guests.
Act as an Adoption Counselor when needed, playing matchmaker for our cats and potential adopters.
Provides tours of facility when requested
Maintain accurate records in accordance with shelter policy and procedure. Accesses information related to animal case files, supply inventories and animal inventory.
Assist in record-keeping and entering information into the Purrfect Pals database in a timely and accurate fashion
Partner with clinic and shelter staff to maximize cleanliness and efficiency helping to minimize transmission of contagious diseases among cats.
Reports maintenance repairs and upkeep. Assist with inventory and restocking supplies.
Qualification Requirements
Positive attitude and willingness to help other staff and function as a team member
Interest in learning and developing new skills
Passion for cats and belief in the Purrfect Pals mission
Experience in handling and restraining cats in a boarding, grooming, clinic or shelter environment
Great communication and customer service skills. Must be able and willing to communicate affectively and compassionately with staff, volunteers and the public.
Computer literacy
Organized with an attention to detail
The ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Flexibility and willingness to reprioritize throughout the day when unexpected cats and kittens arrive at our door needing help. Few days go as planned in a shelter!
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed. Our cats are here seven days a week and rely on our staff for care every day.
Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to train and effectively direct the activities of all shelter volunteers.
