Dentist - Part Time Job Opening in Portland, Maine - GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Working under the supervision of the Dental Director, the Dentist provides professional, high-quality dental diagnosis, treatment and education to a broad range of patients, including children, adolescents and adults. The staff dentist also participates in the ongoing evaluation of Dental Program operations to assure the delivery of high-quality services that support the financial sustainability of the program. The Dentist will promote oral health and disease prevention, diagnose and treat oral disease, perform procedures, and develop treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of Greater Portland Health patients. The Dentist will demonstrate effective communication and team work skills to work collaboratively within a team environment, both internally and externally. This is a part time position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *
Provides high quality dental health care to all Greater Portland Health patients who request services.
Provides competent and thorough assessment and treatment.
Functions effectively as a member of a dental clinic team with appropriate day-to-day clinical direction.
Performs basic dentistry services within professional ability, including, but not limited to: extractions, restorations, impressions, x-rays and oral exams.
Provides preventative oral health education.
Encourages appropriate services through written treatment plans and referrals or recall.
Patient charts are completed and closed with 48 hours.
Provides referral for specialty care, case management and hygienist care as appropriate.
Maintains current knowledge in field.
Maintains professional education and knowledge on dental procedures and practices.
Enhances public image of the program and agency through professional conduct and appearance.
Reviews NextGen and i2i reports to ensure compliance with quality and productivity measures.
Participates in outreach activities on behalf of patients and Greater Portland Health.
Attends required staff meetings and, as requested, participates in program planning.
Provides professional in-service training for clinic staff.
Mentors healthcare students as requested.
Promotes smoking cessation counseling for patients.
Complies with and shares in implementation of all OSHA safety and infection control requirements.
Communicates with team members to induce a positive and productive work environment.
Works as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care and outcomes.
Conforms to the terms of employment contract, all grant and funding conditions, and any relevant agreements between GPH and other entities.
Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of organizational goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
Complies with all safety rules and protocols, as established by the Environment of Care Committee. Immediately reports any workplace injury to supervisor.
Up-to-date on all required training for current year.
Maintains full appointment schedule for office practice and other settings in order to meet organization productivity goals
Abides by the organizations compliance program and requirements.
Performs all other related activities, as required, to assure program success.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree from an accredited School of Dentistry and a valid license to practice dentistry in the state of Maine required.
Demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of basic dentistry services and to work as a team member.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong commitment to public health dentistry.
Clinical and public health experience, required.
Must hold a valid license to practice dentistry in the state of Maine.
Must be registered with the State of Maine Board of Dental Examiners.
Will have up-to-date training and certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association, American Red cross or American Health & Safety Institute. Must obtain within three months if not current at hire.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the principles and practice of family dentistry.
Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to dentistry and to community health centers.
Knowledge of the structure and function of community health centers.
Maintains Board Certification.
