Directing Attorney (Bilingual Spanish) Job Opening in yakima, Washington - Directing Attorney (Bilingual Spanish) Northwest Immigrant Rights Project seeks Directing Attorney (Bilingual Spanish) in its Granger, Washington office Organizational Mission: Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) promotes justice for low-income immigrants by pursuing and defending their legal status. We focus on providing direct legal services, supported by our education and public policy work. Background: NWIRP is an exciting and dynamic nonprofit immigrant rights organization that has been in operation for more than 27 years. NWIRP provides services at four sites in Washington State: Seattle, Granger, Moses Lake and Tacoma (serving the Northwest Detention Center). NWIRP's Granger Office is located in Granger, WA, a city of more than 3,000 people located in a rural area 25 miles southeast of Yakima. From this location, the office serves clients from across Central and Eastern Washington. The office currently has a staff of eight and serves a client base consisting largely of farmworkers and their families. Job Summary: Basic responsibilities: Oversee and supervise operations of NWIRP's Granger office. Provide mentoring, support and supervision to attorneys, accredited representatives and legal advocates in the office. Maintain own caseload of immigration matters. Reports To: Executive Director Essential Functions & Responsibilities: � Conducts intakes and provides information, legal advice, and direct representation to eligible clients residing in Central and Eastern Washington regarding their immigration matters before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of State, and the federal courts. � Supervises and supports the legal work of attorneys, accredited representatives, legal advocates and volunteers, ensuring the timely, professional, and effective delivery of immigration legal services to eligible clients. Supervises support staff. � Responsible for all Granger staff personnel matters, including conducting annual evaluations, responding to grievances, imposing disciplinary action, and reviewing timesheets, leave requests, and check/reimbursement requests. Approves all office expenditures and accounts for all client receipts and bank deposits. � Leads outreach efforts of the office by giving and coordinating presentations to the community and other service providers, including a monthly radio program. Establishes and maintains partnerships with other community service organizations. � Oversees the completion of relevant reports for contracts and grants pertaining to the Granger office. Attends contractor/grantee trainings and meetings. � Participates in all-staff meetings and management team meetings, retreats, special events, and other meetings as necessary. Heads Granger staff meetings. � Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, including assistance with development, communication and public policy work. Requirements: � Law degree and membership in good standing of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction. � Minimum of three years of experience practicing immigration law. � Bilingual in English and Spanish. Additional language skills a plus. � Demonstrated commitment to advancing and defending immigrant rights. � Excellent legal research, written and oral communication skills. � Commitment to working in a rural area. � Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently. � Ability to make critical management decisions. � Proficiency in use of automated software applications and ability to generate management-level analyses and reports. � Must have reliable means of transportation, a valid WA driver's license, and be amenable to regular travel between Granger and Yakima, Seattle, and Spokane. This is a regular, full-time (35 hrs/wk) exempt position. Compensation: Salary is $50,976 DOE plus competitive benefits package.
