Responsible for implementing moderately complex principles and procedures in performing or reviewing the transactions of others. By assisting the CFO, duties may encompass a wide range of detailed transactions including general and subsidiary ledger entries, financial report preparation and reconciliation, bank statements, budget and tax reporting. The Accountant II verifies accuracy and coding for journal entry transactions and compares against source documents to insure compliance with established accounting procedures. Manage and processes payroll for Council staff and temporary staff. Responsible for payroll and tax laws, accurate deductions and payment of taxes. Responsible for all benefits administration, employee benefit education and compliance. This position interacts with staff and volunteers throughout the organization as well as vendors and organization partners. EOE/Committed to Diversity
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process bi-weekly payroll utilizing third party software hosted by CSC Paymaster
Maintain accurate, current personnel files on all employees, tracking vacation, sick leave, and other payroll related benefits
Employee Benefit Administration. Handle enrollment, cancellations and staff changes
Prepare, review and/or enter transactions related to payroll, benefits, and monthly reconciliations utilizing Cash , Accounts Receivable/Payable, and Journal Entries.
Reconcile Cash and Merchant Accounts
Reconcile other General Accounts to Subsidiary ledgers maintained in software not integrated with Accounting Software
Analyze accounting reports and review financial reports with CFO as required. Prepare the books for the annual audit, and assist with required information as needed throughout the audit to ensure a clean audit
Ensure compliance with all Girl Scout Council financial policies and procedures, including risk management and insurance coverage, internal financial controls and volunteer financial policies and procedures
Maintain council insurance policies and appropriate records. Handle renewal applications.
Maintain compliance for all benefits and insurance requirements
Assist in budget development, and compile and distribute supporting reports
Seasonal Day/Resident Camp hire letters and seasonal staff tracking. Ensure all proper employee documentation.
Must be able to work some nights and/or weekends as needed
May use personal car; work occasional evening or weekend
Work may require travel throughout the state
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in accounting/finance plus 3 years? experience required
2 plus years? experience managing all facets of payroll, reporting, benefits and compliance
Experience with non-profit organizations desirable
Knowledge of GAAP and understanding of the basic principles of fund accounting
Knowledge of grant accounting desirable
Intermediate Excel skills, including Vlookup and Pivot Tables required, working knowledge of Word and mail-merge functionality
Experience in compiling and analyzing data
Utilize and apply new technology to improve work efficiency
Ability to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances
Database management with ability to produce reports
Ability to resolve routine problems independently; consult with supervisor to develop plans for resolution of unusual or complex problems
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong work ethic with the attitude of ?whatever it takes? to get the job done
Demonstrate common sense, flexibility, and teamwork with the ability to exercise independent judgment
Proven organizational, administrative, technical, time management and planning skills, and attention to detail.
Registered member of Girl Scouts or willingness to become one.
Takes a proactive approach to accomplishing work vs. a reactive response
Bilingual Spanish desirable
Must be a citizen, resident and eligible able to work in the US.
