AmeriCorps Vista-Youth Build Pathway Coordinator Job Opening in Portland, Maine - Member Duties: This position based in Portland, ME will work to increase the number of Youth Build Bayside students who transition successfully into the YBB program, a career, and/or postsecondary education by expanding and strengthening YBB?s recruitment, admissions, career development, and post-graduate preparation and placement capacities. The VISTA member?s service activities will include: facilitating partnerships with local employers to improve and expand business tours, job shadows, and internships; improving the program?s career pathways model to provide more individualized guidance and support for students in pursuing their career goals; developing methods to improve students? resilience and perseverance in overcoming barriers to employment and postsecondary education; implementing college visits and tours; recruiting guest speakers; coordinating class shadows and visits; developing alumni supportive services; and creating learning tools related to the college application and financial aid process.

Compensation: $12,311 Annual living stipend, with the end of year benefit of an education award in the amount equal to a Pell Grant ($5,775) or a cash stipend ($1,500 paid in two installments).
Service Description: The mission of YouthBuild USA is to break the cycle of poverty by unleashing the intelligence and positive energy of low-income out-of-school young adults to rebuild their communities and their lives. In YouthBuild programs, low-income young people ages 16 to 24 enroll full-time for about a year, during which time they build affordable housing for homeless and low-income people and work toward their own high school diploma or GED while learning leadership skills and internalizing the ethic of service.
Youth Build Bayside (YBB) is an affiliate of YouthBuild USA and has been serving young men and women since 1994. YBB?s Youth Build program is a comprehensive youth development program with the following core components: Education, Vocational, Jobs for Maine Graduates, Leadership, Community Service, and On-site counseling (group and individual). Through alternative education and employment pathways, YBB enables participants to advance toward post-secondary education or career-oriented employment while taking responsibility for the community at large. Upon successful completion of the program Youth Build Bayside transition services assist students in job and/or college placement. YBB staff provides follow-up services for at least a year after leaving the program.
