POSITION SUMMARY
The Office of the Chief Financial Officer is seeking to fill an Associate Director for Compliance and Audit position. The Associate Director for Compliance and Audit is a managerial position that involves directing the work of an organization. Managers are accountable for the success of specific line or staff programs, monitoring the progress of the organization toward goals, and periodically evaluating and making appropriate adjustments. Subordinates include Auditors, other professionals, and paraprofessionals who perform audit work. Auditor professionals apply professional accounting and auditing knowledge, standards and principles, laws, and regulations while performing functions including, but not limited to: conducting activities related to the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse; conducting in-person, telephone, and on-site investigative interviews; preparing audit reports; examination and appraisal of financial records, financial and management reports, management controls, policies and practices affecting or reflecting the financial condition and operating results of an activity; analyzing work related to the developing and executing audit policies and programs; and recommending corrective action plans.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages subordinate staff of professionals and paraprofessionals who perform professional audit work associated with the administration of and use of grant awards, including examination of financial records, financial and managerial reporting, performance audits, and financial audits.
Collaborates with heads of other units to negotiate, decide on, and/or coordinate work-related changes affecting other units; Advises officials with broader and higher responsibilities on problems involving the relationship of the work of the unit supervised to broader programs, and its impact on such programs; Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; Sets priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work; Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of employees; Gives advice, counsels, or instructions to individual employees on both work and administrative matters; Interviews candidates for positions in his unit; Makes recommendations for appointment, promotion, or reassignment involving such positions; Recommends minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands; Evaluates subordinates; Hears group grievances and serious employee complaints, or ones not resolved at a lower level: reviewing serious disciplinary cases those proposing suspensions and removals, and disciplinary problems involving key employees; As needed, consults with specialists on training needs, and deciding on training problems related to the units supervised; Identifies developmental and training needs of employees in consultation with the Chief Learning Officer; Provides or makes provision for such development and training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of work in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or a closely related field. Such education must include at least twenty-four (24) semester (36 terms) credits in coursework of accounting or a related field.
Experience
Must have a minimum of six (6) years total experience: Four (4) years of direct experience in auditing and two (2) years in a supervisory capacity over audit professionals. Associate Director for Compliance and Audit must demonstrate proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
License / Certificates
Possession of a State of Michigan registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) preferred.
