Sr. Enviromental Engineer Job Opening in Gramercy, Louisiana - ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Noranda Alumina is seeking a self-motivated, multi-faceted Environmental Engineer or Specialist to join our team in Gramercy, Louisiana. The candidate has to be experienced in multimedia environmental areas such as water compliance, SPCC plans, FRP?s, site planning, etc. This individual is required to have experience in Title V air permitting.
Responsibilities May Include:
Serve as an environmental resource to all plant personnel.
Monitor, maintain and implement environmental management programs to ensure compliance in accordance with all local, regional, state, and federal regulations.
Respond to the Noranda Alumina?s business segments for environmental support on projects from initial project assessment to final permit preparation, submission and approval.
Provide project management and implementation guidance for Environmental issues.
Assist in developing strategies and implementation plans for emerging environmental issues.
Provide guidance, regulatory interpretation, and assistance with procedure development for a variety of environmental issues.
Complete all routine regulatory and permit driven compliance reporting for assets.
Develop and continually expand regulatory and technical expertise.
Define training objectives and develop or coordinate environmental training course content, format, and presentation methods.
Advise, assist with and complete environmental reporting requirements for local, regional, state, federal and corporate entities.
Participate in HSE auditing efforts.
Conduct SPCC monthly inspections.
Conduct environmental audits.
Manage accumulation and disposal of universal, hazard and non-hazard waste streams.
Ensure compliance and adherence to required environmental reporting deadlines.
Conduct awareness training associated with the environmental function.
This position is a hands-on role, responsible for providing leadership and technical guidance for the various Noranda Alumina teams.
Instill and foster a proactive EHS-conscious culture and drive operational ownership of Noranda Alumina?s Environment, Health & Safety programs through all levels of the organization.
Manage all environmental related matters associated with site operations including air, water, waste and chemical/materials management issues.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is not supervisory.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required to pass a physical.
Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer and other general purpose and industry specific software packages.
Possess an understanding of document control as it relates to the environmental process.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, self-starting and proactive, and have strong organizational skills. Must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, set goals, and complete commitment on schedule.
Willing to travel to seminars, training schools etc. for initial program training and continuing education.
Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to make presentations to a wide range audience including management, technical, and non-technical levels on program status and identified objectives.
Team player works effectively and cooperatively with others. Actively shares knowledge and skills with others.

Education minimum: Four (4) year degree in Environmental Engineering or Science. Extensive experience may be substituted for the technical degree
Experience minimum: Ten (10) years of experience is required.
At least 10 years of progressive environmental experience in the following:
Multimedia experience in all facets of water compliance, SPCC plans, FRP?s, site planning, etc.
Requires experience in Title V air permitting and a plus would be actual modelling experience.
Major federal environmental laws such as RCRA, CAA, CWA, Endangered Species Act, and their respective implementing regulations
Air permitting from small source to major source.
Required to have extensive experience in all storm water areas. Including writing and implementing storm water plans and permits. This will include general source permits and sites that just require a plan and best management practices to be implemented.
Need to have SPCC regulation and plan requirement expertise. The candidate should be able to write a plan to meet the regulatory requirements, put the plan in place, train the facility personnel, and interact with EPA and the Coast Guard during inspections to assure Noranda Alumina?s compliance with all areas.

State air, water and waste related permitting processes and regulations and other local, and regional environmental regulations impacting the oil and gas transportation industry
Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret information. Ability to write reports and basics business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form
