Retail Accountant Job Opening in Portland, Maine - Artist & Craftsman Supply, an employee-owned company with a national family of 33 stores, has an immediate opening for a Retail Accountant in our Portland Office. This is a full-time, on-site position.
General Purpose
The Retail Accountant assists the Controller in all aspects of the general accounting practice.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Make journal entries in the general ledger
Manage online banking and account reconciliations
Prepare, file and remit multi-state sales tax returns
Manage monthly occupancy/lease obligations
Assist with period closings
All other duties as assigned by the Controller
Education and Experience
Bachelor?s Degree or an Associate?s Degree; a degree in a related field is preferred
Minimum 2 years of retail accounting experience preferred
Key Competencies
Solid trouble-shooting skills ? able to identify and solve problems
Solid communicator with planning and organizational skills
Pro-active; constantly striving to create better processes and workflows for efficiency
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Microsoft Excel required
Experience with Sage accounting preferred
Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, speak and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to key at a computer, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally kneel, bend, reach and grasp. Employee must be able to lift 25 pounds on occasion.
