Accounting Assistant Job Opening in Madison, Wisconsin - JSD Professional Services, Inc has been a leading force in the Land Development Industry since 1998. We are currently looking for a qualified and dynamic personality in our Accounting Assistant roll. This position will report directly to the Controller and assist with the Accounting for all 5 offices. The ideal candidate will posses the required qualifications listed below, and be able to perform the list of duties in a fast paced, energetic, and professional setting. The candidate will be able to perform these duties with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, and organization.

Requirements: (Not Cumulative)
Associates degree or higher (business, accounting or office administration) OR
Minimum of three (3) years office experience AND
Minimum of three (3) years related accounting experience
Responsibilities: (Include but not limited to)
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, including the profit and loss statement and balance sheet
Assist Controller in recording, reconciling and auditing accounting data.
Assist with budget, tax, as well as month and year-end preparations, compliance, and reports
Prepare and disburse payments to vendors
Post transactions involving cash receipts, disbursements and/or accounts payable and receivable to ledger accounts
Assist in the Accounts Receivable function, including monthly client billing and collections
Continuously reconcile all ledger accounts, including cash accounts
Assist in performing the payroll function, including staff labor review, data entry, reconciliation, and other payroll-related efforts
Research and resolve account discrepancies and exceptions
Provide administrative support to Controller as needed. Includes filing, data entry, document creation and proofing, preparing spreadsheets, and preparing outgoing correspondence.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Abilities:
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Ability to efficiently analyze financial transactions and make original or adjusting entries
Ability to read and comprehend financial transactions
Ability to audit transactions through financial records
Ability to understand and apply current accounting guidelines, system updates and revisions, and policy changes.
Ability to compare financial data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to follow, apply, interpret, and explain instructions and/or guidelines as they relate to the accounting function
Knowledge:
Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping terminology and practices
Knowledge of automated accounting systems
Knowledge of financial record keeping and reporting and budget preparation
