Staff Accountant Job Opening in Birmingham, Alabama - Position Summary: This position reports to the Controller and will be responsible for receiving, verifying, reconciling and processing accounts payable invoices. Additionally, the position will have frequent interaction with field level personnel and vendors. After 9-12 months, the position will evolve into other accounting functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Initial 9-12 months - learning company operations through the Accounts Payable management process
Receive 200-300 invoices weekly, process AP cycle timely
Verifies invoice approval with department heads
Verify invoice discrepancies
Ensure invoices are accrued to the proper month
Reconciled processed invoices by comparing to general ledger system balances
Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers
Pays vendors according to company cash flow policies
Processes employee expense reports
Processes vendor credit applications
Maintain subcontractors and ensure their COI's stay up to date
Vendor customer service
2. Review Expenses for capitalization
3. Prepare Journal entries and complete Balance Sheet reconciliations for multiple companies
4. Records monthly accounting entries related to accruals and deferrals.
5. Assist with financial audit
6. Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
7. Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
8. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with management team.
9. Perform other duties as requested by management

Working Conditions:
Primarily in an office environment.
Periodic weekend or evening work maybe expected.
