SALES ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Five Star Industrial Services, located in Glencoe, Alabama is a industrial contractor and a conveyor system integrator founded in 2003, that is currently expanding their footprint in the Southeast. We are looking for motivated professional sales engineers with the desire to make a difference in the industry. The positions available will be for Georgia and Alabama. Candidates must reside in the geographical area and be willing to travel to potential customers within their specified territory.
POSITION: Sales Engineer

REPORTS TO: Sales Manager, Glencoe, AL
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This position is primarily responsible for identifying customers with material handling needs and developing solutions that satisfy those needs. This responsibility includes but isn?t limited to customer prospecting; qualifying customers; identifying material handling needs; engineering a solution to the needs; preparing a quotation; selling the solution to the customer; selecting and qualifying appropriate suppliers and vendors; and project managing the approved material handling application or projects.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
This position spends approximately 20% of their time in a general office that is free of dirt, noise, moving equipment and other hazards or pollutants. Approximately 40% of this person?s time is spent in a manufacturing environment that may contain noise, dirt, oil, grease, moving equipment and other hazards. The position spends approximately 40% of their time traveling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS
Develop a Marketing Plan for a specific geographical area that includes but isn?t limited to quarterly sales goals and objectives; and a strategy for achieving these targeted goals and objectives (e.g. prospecting plan; customer visitation and follow-up; plan for promoting the business)
Participate as directed in the development of a company-wide Marketing Plan.
Adhere to operational systems, policies and procedures as it relates to prospecting; qualifying customers; identifying material handling needs; designing solutions; preparing quotations; selling the solution to the customer; selecting and qualifying suppliers and vendors (from established resources); and project managing the approved material handling application.
Be able to identify areas of need at customer?s facility that would fall into any of the areas of expertise of FSI. These areas not only include material handling, but also, general electrical and mechanical installation and maintenance service and support.
Follow up on customer leads that are provided by FSI and generate new customer leads by regularly prospecting for new customers.
Identify customer material handling needs, collect the information necessary to develop a solution, identify the decision makers, and develop the most cost effective and operational efficient solution for the customer.
Design complete material handling systems (i.e. conveyors, controls, electrical components, etc.) using equipment from selected Suppliers that both meet the customer?s equipment specifications and satisfies their material handling needs.
Prepare all quotations for new and reoccurring business in accordance with the Company?s Quotation System.
Negotiate job quotations with customers as needed and reach agreement on all contract terms in accordance with company policies.
Effectively supervise and otherwise project manage all of the activities associated with the installation of all awarded jobs.
Develop an amicable and personal relationship with key individuals employed by the customer.
Periodically contact past customers to identify opportunities to sell new equipment and assist with the evaluation and maintenance of existing equipment.
Maintain complete and comprehensive records of all job cost and expenses.
Satisfy those reporting requirements associated with monitoring business activity and measuring market activity.
Develop product knowledge from all selected equipment suppliers that facilitates the process of helping the customer make the most informed equipment decisions
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS
Develop a personal Career Development Plan that is periodically evaluated.
Follow up with customers whom are more than thirty (30) days late paying an invoice.
Negotiate and otherwise develop Customer Service Agreements that are consistent with the company?s capabilities and consistent with its profit margin policies.
Support the Company?s initiatives to train and develop new Sales Engineers.
Make recommendations pertaining to customer development, marketing strategies, product development, sales promotion and other factors affecting the company business.
COMPENSATION
Compensation will be 100% commission based upon value of sales per project. Percentage of commission paid will be commensurate with candidate?s experience but would expect to range in the 7%-12% range.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires that the person be sufficiently mobile and capable of traveling by car and airplane. They must also be able to speak clearly and hear the response of a person both over the telephone and in person. This person must be capable of being physical present during the installation of his/her projects sold.
JOB PREREQUISITES AND COMPETENCIES
A minimum of an undergraduate degree or its equivalent experience in business; preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Five years or more of sales experience within an industrial sector.
A vehicle and operating licenses to drive anywhere in the United States.
Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, Internet and AutoCAD.
Technical knowledge of conveyor and accessory mechanical and electrical equipment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Skilled at preparing and making sales presentations.
Knowledge and experience of effective negotiation techniques.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge and experience in problem solving techniques.
Ability to draft and design material handling systems and the ability to recognize other potential type of projects.
Analytically skilled at effectively gathering customer information, identifying material handling problems and developing effective solutions.
Interpersonal and networking skills that foster strong personal relationships.
Personality characteristics that include tenacity, resilience, initiative, enthusiasm, independence, and ambition.
