Mortgage Deputy Job Opening in Bloomington, Indiana - The County Treasurer is a constitutional officer of the county, elected for a four year term from the county at large with prohibition against serving more than two consecutive terms. The Treasurer is charged with the responsibility of being the custodian of all money belonging to the county, and is responsible for the accounting of money received and disbursed from county funds. As the county chief financial officer the treasurer is vested with the authority and is charged with the duty of collecting all taxes and assessments which are payable to the county.
We are currently seeking a Mortgage Deputy.
DUTIES:
Assist taxpayers in collection and processing of Personal Property Tax and Real Estate Tax payments and provide receipts according to the established procedures of the Treasurer?s Office.
Answer incoming calls with questions regarding tax liabilities and departmental procedures. Provide tax record information or route callers to appropriate person or department.
Maintain and routinely update computer records regarding mortgage companies. This includes adding new loans or deleting loans paid in full, and assigning lending codes. Prepare tax statements to be mailed to mortgage companies.
Balance cash drawer by proving transactions; counting currency, reconciling checks and maintaining a daily deposit spreadsheet.
Assist taxpayers with renewal of alcohol beverage permits and processing mobile home permits to move or acquire a title transfer.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Practical knowledge of the Treasurer?s Office and tax collection policies and procedures or ability to obtain knowledge and possess the skills necessary to apply procedures to routine duties.
Basic computer and math skills necessary. Ability to use Windows, Microsoft Excel, Outlook and competency to learn LOW Tax Software. Ability to make simple arithmetic additions or subtractions and perform calculations, such as taxes.
Knowledge of standard filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate records.
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, personnel from other governmental agencies, and members of general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with department superiors, co-workers, mortgage companies, other County departments, personnel from other governmental agencies, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs a variety of standard and recurring duties according to established practices and procedures of Treasurer's Office, assuring accurate and timely completion of tax collection procedures. Errors in accuracy of work are readily detected through standard bookkeeping checks, close supervisory review, and notification from other departments. Undetected errors could result in loss of time to Treasurer's Office and other government departments, loss of money to Treasurer, and minor inconvenience to members of general public. Incumbent receives specific instructions and follows guidelines developed by Treasurer's Office, adjusting duties and work routines to accommodate deadlines and seasonal needs. Reports to work in a timely manner in order to open the office, have equipment operating, and have cash drawer ready.
Incumbent occasionally works extended hours and/or evenings.
