The Accountant is responsible for all financial operations, statements, and financial reporting requirements including preparing financial statements that reflect the performance and position of the business, budgeting and forecasting, developing, managing, and auditing financial reporting processes, and identifying financial issues. Additionally, the Accountant is responsible for ensuring correctness of invoices and accurately making payments as well as processing payroll.
Responsibilities
Manages all accounting activities to ensure that financial processes and information are accurate and timely. Review and administer internal controls in support of audit processes.
Manages the timely preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, key data reports (KDR), and reports for governmental agencies.
Generates journal entries, ensures expenses charged to appropriate accounts, and reconciles all accounts.
Provides financial counseling and assistance including analysis and recommendations to enhance operations and results.
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Complies with federal, state, and local filing requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
Completes all duties related to reconciliation of month end and year end in a timely fashion to support external tax accountant.
Manages cash flow and analyzes credit line requirements.
Manages analysis of benchmarking, monthly break even, cash flow, and productivity and reports on each to shareholders.
Manages all audit processes.
Completion of all aspects of payroll including, but not limited to, timekeeping, bonus calculations, on time payroll submission, payments to child support, garnishment payments, and submission of 401k contributions.
Process and pay carrier and dedicated invoices including entering fuel card charges, matching carrier statement fuel reports and auditing carrier statements with payables.
Research and resolve discrepancies on carrier and dedicated invoices.
Generate the unsettled load report for carriers.
Process quick pays.
In a professional and friendly manner, effectively communicate with vendors regarding payment status requests.
Reconcile Com Checks to ensure accuracy.
Create, modify and maintain documents and SOP?s electronically on SharePoint.
Generate reports and forward to appropriate parties.
Perform general clerical duties related to the position.
Support the team with project based assignments.
Performs, as necessary, back-up duties within the accounting team.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years experience in financial management or accounting required.
5+ years of progressively higher level experience in financial management or accounting preferred.
Emphasis on experience with high volume transactional business a plus.
Strong understanding of accounting business systems and technology ? proficient with Excel, Word, and software database applications.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to organize data into meaningful analysis for decision making purposes.
Advanced level of technical accounting experience, including understanding of GAAP, necessary to prepare income statement, balance sheet and other financial documents to reflect the performance and position of the business.
Knowledge and understanding of financial principles required for budgeting and planning.
Understands financial statements, cash flow, and key financial ratios.
Understands the integrated systems of internal control and the relationship to disclosure and financial reporting.
Organization skills necessary to meet a wide variety of requests and deadlines.
Ability to multi-task and manage a diverse spectrum of stakeholder expectations.
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor?s Degree in an discipline or equivalent experience required.
