The Queen?s Medical Center provides trauma care to injured patients throughout the Pacific Basin and is designated as a trauma center by the Hawaii Department of Health. The hospital's dedication to trauma care encompasses the pre-hospital phase of care through to and including the rehabilitation process.
With approximately 2700 trauma patients arriving at Queen?s each year, the Queen?s Trauma Service provides all traumatically injured patients with priority access to comprehensive medical care and hospital services 24 hours-a-day and seven days-a-week.
The Trauma Clinical Database Coding Specialist works within the Trauma Program team to maintain the trauma database in accordance with Queen?s Trauma Services policies and procedures, as well as the State of Hawaii Department of Health, accreditation agencies and registries that the Medical Center participates with. This is an on-site position.
Queen?s is seeking an experienced Certified Professional Coder to help Queen?s continue its legacy of caring. Qualifications include:
AND LICENSURE:
Current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by AAPC; or if not certified upon hire, must obtain certification within one (1) year of entrance into the position.
Associate?s degree in health information management, healthcare or related field preferred.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
Training in E-Codes and/or AIS coding preferred.
B. EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years trauma registry, coding and/or abstracting experience; or completion of a medical coding program may be substituted for the work experience requirement.
Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding.
Experience to demonstrate knowledge and ability to work with databases and MS Office applications.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience with performance improvement programs preferred.
