Electrical Controls Group Manager Job Opening in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - Position Description
The candidate will manage the controls engineering team responsible for design, development and implementation of control systems in HVAC products that meet and exceed best-in-class performance and reliability targets across multiple platforms and product families, as well as manufacturing support for existing products. The candidate will lead controls product development, sustaining and cost reduction activities; interface with customers, suppliers, technical support personnel, field engineers and relevant internal functions. The candidate will employ a balanced combination of advanced analytical techniques and experimental methods. The applicant will be responsible for management and upgrade of the test laboratory facilities to develop and qualify electronics and electrical components, as well as collaboration with the outside vendors to complement existing test capabilities. The candidate will assure that the controls group has necessary tools and equipment to provide efficient support for the organization and sister companies in the cross-functional environment. The applicant will be responsible for management and professional development of the controls group personnel and seamless integration into the engineering organization. The candidate will have firsthand knowledge and experience in the areas of electronic controls development, embedded control system / application software development and validation, HVAC control system design and applications (with a preferred focus on commercial equipment controls ), relevant industry standards and agency compliance, design for manufacturing and assembly, simulation and debugging tools, electronic / electrical hardware manufacturing methods, new product development process, and operational excellence principles. The candidate will lead the controls standardization initiative across the organization and develop building level controls to strengthen the company integrated system solutions and comprehensive product offerings.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead NPD programs, sustaining and cost reduction initiatives, as well as manage controls projects throughout the complete development and implementation cycle
Manage, train, grow and professionally develop the controls team personnel
Support system design engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, sales & marketing, quality and supply chain functions
Interface with vendors, customers and field personnel
Design and qualify HVAC control systems employing advanced analytical methods and experimental techniques
Assume ownership for maintenance and updates for electrical / electronic purchased part engineering drawings, standards and specifications
Manage controls qualification and agency compliance test programs, including applicable IEC standards; develop and improve hardware products while meeting and exceeding functional, safety and environmental requirements
Develop, optimize and qualify controls and supporting software for HVAC systems; manage software qualification and validation test programs
Generate technical controls specifications and provide complete documentation for the hardware designs
Generate software specifications, test documentation, and summary reports
Assume responsibility for electrical quality and productivity improvement opportunities
Conduct presentations for engineering and business leadership teams
Experience & qualifications
7-10 years minimum of relevant professional and management experience
Knowledge of HVAC control system design and applications
Knowledge of HVAC system applications
Knowledge of the fundamentals of electronic circuit design and analysis, as well as power electronics, motors and variable speed drives
Experience developing control box layout designs, wire harness routing, as well as load calculations for transformers, contactors, switches and other electrical components
Extensive experience with common industry communication protocols such as BACnet, LonTalk, MODBUS, etc.
Prior experience in digital control systems for applied refrigeration and air conditioning product applications
Experience with development of detailed laboratory test plans and test data analysis for units and embedded controls
Knowledge of applicable industry standards and agency compliance; experience administering appropriate agency and regulatory approval processes
Knowledge of the appropriate product quality, safety and design standards, including but not limited to IEC, UL/CSA 1995, UL508, UL508A, National Electric Code, ANSI Z21.47, ASHRAE 90.1
Knowledge of schematic capture, PCB design, and circuit simulation / debugging software
Knowledge of the fundamentals of electronic circuit analysis
Experience with multiple programming languages (e.g. assembly, embedded C, Visual Basic, and LabView environment); knowledge of embedded control computer programming languages is essential
Knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and harness configuration concepts
Knowledge of electronic control manufacturing methods
Knowledge of manufacturing methods used in HVAC&R field is a plus but not required
Familiarity with the engineering level office productivity software and experience with engineering analysis tools such as PSpice, MathCad, MiniTab, etc.
Basic experience with 3D-CAD applications such as Pro-E is a plus but is not required
Intimate familiarity and/or certification in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
Good communication and organization skills

Education
Masters in Electrical Engineering with preferred emphasis on electronic control system design (Bachelors in Electrical may be considered)
