Billing Clerk: Appeals Job Opening in Austin, Texas - Job Title: Billing Clerk V: Appeals
Purpose:
In coordination with the entire Capitol Pain Institute and ASC Billing staff, the Insurance Appeals clerk is responsible for investigating and implementing measures to research unpaid claims from insurance companies.
Job Description
Appeal denied consultation, office visit, clinic injection and procedure claims after processing by the following insurance companies: Medicare, BCBS, Tricare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare, Workers Compensation, etc
Interpretation of Insurance Explanation of Benefits for appeals and patient balance/statement inquiries.
Follow-up on previously submitted appeals, submission of corrected claims and any claims rejected by the Medical Billing Clearinghouse.
Follow-up on Accounts Aging for claims aged past 45 days.
Research overpayment recoveries and/or retracted payments from insurance companies.
When needed, ability to apply copayments and adjust patient balances accordingly.
Reports to Billing Manager regarding any deadlines or concerns .
Cross-training on other Billing positions including Insurance Verification, Claim Coding, and Appeals
Skills / Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.
HIPPA Certification.
Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance terminology, and coding including ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and 2015 CPT for professional and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) claims.
Familiarity with electronic medical billing software and electronic remittance postings, Allegiance MD a plus.
Strong written and mathematical skills including experience using MS Excel, Word, and Google Drive .
Excellent organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work on department overflow with limited supervision and meet department requirements and deadlines.
1+ years experience in the healthcare industry, billing, or healthcare billing a big plus.
