Job Summary
A Payroll Specialist performs payroll accounting and administrative duties including setting up payroll account codes, processing payroll certifications, setting up voluntary deductions, processing and auditing payroll, auditing payroll reports, processing tax forms and resolving payroll issues.
Nature of Work
The Payroll Specialist position requires general knowledge of common payroll and general accounting practices. This position will be full time April to November and part time December to March. Work consists of both routine and non-routine administrative accounting work performed using general procedures and processes to follow, but variations in these procedures are typical.
Examples of Duties

Reviews, analyzes and checks payroll forms and reports for accuracy and makes necessary adjustments or corrections.
Creates and maintains payroll account codes.
Processes payroll distribution, direct deposit.
Sets up and reconciles voluntary payroll deductions, prepares reports, identifies and researches exceptions and remits payment to vendors.
Processes garnishments which include child supports, tax levies, student loans, WRIT of garnishments, etc.
Completes appropriate forms for special wage/salary payouts and adjustments or to correct or balance a special situation.
Researches, analyzes and resolves payroll-related problems or questions.
Recommends or participates in the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations utilizing knowledge of state and federal policies and regulations.
Compiles financial, tax and payroll reports for both internal and external purpose.
Coordinates and interacts with federal and state agencies on issues pertaining to employee compensation, general deductions, benefits and retirement.
Compiles and analyzes payroll data, makes recommendations and determinations and prepares related reports.
Issues W-2 Wage and Tax Statement reprints.
Processes and maintains W-4 tax data and changes in personal data.
Reports employee benefit information to TASC for ACA Compliance.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
This position requires a high school diploma and related experience in an accounting function. Appropriate college coursework or training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Experience in employee benefits is a plus but is not a requirement for this position.
