Horizon Scientific is a fast-growing manufacturer and distributor of medical and laboratory equipment with specific focus on Research and Clinical Life Science Labs within the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Hospital and University Markets. Horizon Scientific?s 100,000 . facility includes sheet metal fabrication, an automated powder coat paint booth, environmental temperature testing rooms, temperature testing, mapping and data logging stations. The position is based out of the Standex Scientific Group?s (SSG), Rapid Response Center located outside of Charleston in Summerville, South Carolina. The Standex Scientific Group is a rapidly expanding division of Salem, NH based Standex International (NYSE: SXI). SSG has operations in Summerville, SC and Hudson, WI.

DESCRIPTION
Horizon is searching for a qualified candidate to fill this full-time position. The responsibilities include technical sales and service support for customers and sales and service representatives. Customer contacts will be within the medical school, hospital, biotech and pharmaceutical areas. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential in order to provide effective support. Past experience within the medical or laboratory equipment fields would be a plus. Also, any experience within the refrigeration or controlled temperature products industry would provide an excellent foundation for this position.
This position pay rate is dependent on experience.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Technical Service Representative (TSR) will operate in a clean fast paced office environment with other TSR, Customer Service Representatives, Sales and Marketing personnel and other support and management staff. The TSR is responsible (via telephone / emails) for providing technical assistance and support on a line of medical and laboratory refrigerators and freezers to Horizon Scientific customers, sales representatives, and independent service companies. Minimal travel (less than 15%) for training and customer site visits may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Respond to customer and sales representative product inquiries via telephone (medium-volume) and email.
Provide technical support on refrigeration equipment during product selection, installation, operation, and maintenance and product application.
Dispatch service calls with independent field service organizations
Determine root cause, action taken and repair of all service related issues
Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel to articulate actions and conclusions. As well as generate reports for supervisor to identify any and all service trends.
Maintain and support customers and the sales representatives throughout North America; responding to product issues and establishing rapport by phone, fax, e-mail or mail.
Assist to coordinate and present the technical aspects of training for new personnel and outside sales representatives.
Work with Sales and Marketing and Executive Management to keep product information up to date, and to keep all departments informed of product up-dates.
Keep owner?s manuals and parts lists up to date.
Utilize computer information systems for purposes of data retrieval and order entry.
Attend professional workshops and seminars as assigned.
Periodically promote Horizon Scientific at trade shows, distributor?s national sales meetings and other training events.
In addition, other duties may be assigned as the need arises.
Normal working hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm with some on-call. Possible staggered shifts may be necessary.
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science Degree, Associates Degree and/or a Technical or Trade Certification Required. Any courses in refrigeration, HVAC or Electronics would be a plus.
Possess good speaking voice, pleasant phone personality, ability to make judgment calls and decisions.
Good computer skills required. Knowledge of MS Office products are necessary.
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow multi-step processes and easily take direction.
Prefer the ability to work without direct supervision and have the ability to independently pursue assignments with maximum problem solving resolve.
3 years? experience in customer service, technical service or sales is preferred.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and possess knowledge of machines and tools.
Must pass drug screen and background check.
