The Accounting Director is responsible for managing the collection and recording of all pertinent financial data and transactions; hiring, training, and management of accounting staff; and assisting with budget preparation and other financial functions.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for the preparation, compilation, and related analysis of support for monthly loan draw and financial reporting packages for submittal to business partners. Reviews reporting packages to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, ensures unusual variances are analyzed and investigated, and discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner. Coordinates, reviews, and distributes reports for senior management and other departments.
Responsible for reviewing, updating and maintaining project proformas using monthly data and inputs from other internal parties to assist in projections.
Responsible for the accurate and timely review and completion of the annual audits of a portfolio of military housing PPP properties:
Leads team in the preparation of the year-end financial statements and footnotes, updating the footnotes for all relevant disclosures including new disclosures required by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Stays current with latest Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs) issued by the FASB and incorporates the impact of the latest ASUs into the financial statements and footnotes
Leads team in the accurate and timely preparation of ?Prepared by Client? work papers required by the auditors
Liaise with the auditors during both interim and final audit sessions to assure that all questions and review comments are cleared on a timely basis
Meets the internal deadlines that are set by the Corporate Accounting group for the completion of the audits for the military housing PPP properties and which is earlier than the contractual deadline date of the military branches so as not to delay the preparation of Hunt Companies, Inc.?s audited financial statements.
Responsible for the accurate and timely review and completion of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to the military branches of a portfolio of military housing PPP properties:
Leads team in the preparation of the financial reporting packages.
Reviews and approves variance analysis for the military branches and answers all questions from the military, Hunt Asset Management, and other internal and external requests.
Liaise with Hunt Property Management for all matters related to the properties:
Assist the on-site Bookkeepers with recording of revenue journal entries
Assist in preparation of annual budgets
Liaise with the Vice , Real Estate Investments Accounting and Internal Reporting in all matters related to the military housing PPP properties so that each portfolio is accounted for and reported on a consistent basis across the entire Hunt portfolio.
Liaise with Hunt?s Senior Vice President/Chief Accounting Officer and Senior Vice President/Corporate Controller regarding Hunt Companies Inc.?s quarter and year-end consolidation issues.
Accounts for all complex accounting transactions related to the military housing properties:
Debt and equity including military ownership
Conveyance of assets by the military
Repair and replacement funds owned by the military
Demolition, construction, capitalized interest, and rehabilitation work
Recapitalization Projects
Lease-up and operating phases of the properties? life cycle
Cash waterfalls and coordination with the Lockbox Agent
Adherence to Restricted Use requirements
Work with the other Military Housing Accounting Directors and Managers to achieve consistency in accounting, reporting, and internal controls.
Liaise with Corporate Accounting to document, as directed by the Controller, all significant transactions within the Military Housing Accounting group; these significant transaction memos will be provided to all of the PPP auditors to assist them in their understanding of the transaction.
Supervises team in all tasks and provides coaching and mentoring to enhance their development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Contacts
Internal:
Assistant Controller ? Reports to, obtain/exchange information.
Leadership ? HMHSS and all other Hunt entities ? obtain exchange information.
External:
Vendors, Auditors, Military Partners, Bondholder Representatives, Servicers, Trustees, Rating Agencies and Bank Contacts.
Financial Responsibility
Approve invoices for payment and processing and review expense reports and handle all funds.
Demonstrate the ability to understand and perform to financial goals (i.e., income, expenses, and budgets).
Responsible for ensuring that all accounting allocations are appropriately made and documented.
Supervisory Responsibility
Direct responsibilities to hire, fire, performance management, coach, review and obtain/exchange information from direct reports and team.
Education
Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA strongly preferred.
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum eight to ten years of accounting experience, preferably corporate accounting, and reporting.
Strong knowledge of chart of accounts, general ledger, trial balance, financial statement preparation, GAAP and internal control policies and procedures required.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Management ability to direct, guide, motivate, and develop staff.
Ability to prioritize for self and others, strong organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to define problems and organize efficient solutions, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications. Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Displays teamwork by balancing team and individual responsibilities.
Knowledge of JD Edwards E-1 and Yardi a plus.
Other Skills
Requires an innovative, highly motivated individual, who is a detail oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and can lead team. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are standard business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
