Volunteer Coordinator Job Opening in monterey, California - Volunteer Coordinator Job Announcement MPA Watch Volunteer Coordinator The Otter Project has an immediate opening for a part time (10-15 hours/week) employee to assist with the implementation of MPA Watch, a Citizen Monitoring initiative for Central Coast Marine Protected Areas. About The Otter Project: The Otter Project promotes the rapid recovery of the threatened California sea otter through science-based policy and advocacy. Recovery challenges include water quality, habitat, and oil infrastructure and development. Background: In 2007, California adopted its first network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) along the Central Coast. The network is a series of marine reserves and conservation areas�underwater parks�where certain activities are not allowed. Each conservation area has its own unique set of regulations. In order to foster compliance to these new regulations, The Otter Project is training volunteers to monitor resource use in and around MPAs, from Cambria to A�o Nuevo. Citizen volunteers will be trained to identify ocean activities and collect data on resource use. Job Description: The volunteer coordinator will be asked to lead the recruitment of volunteers and assist staff in the further development of MPA Watch. The majority of coordinator�s time will be spent on MPA Watch related tasks, however the coordinator will also be asked to offer additional administrative and program support to the organization as necessary.
