AmeriCorps VIP: CSU Monterey Bay Return of the Natives Program Environ Job Opening in monterey, California - AmeriCorps VIP: CSU Monterey Bay Return of the Natives Program Environ AmeriCorps VIP: CSU Monterey Bay Return of the Natives Program Environmental Service & Education Member Duties : The Volunteer Infrastructure Program (VIP) generates volunteers to serve in community organizations focusing on youth and families who are struggling economically across California . VIP Fellows will work hand in hand with organizations to develop and expand quality opportunities for volunteers to address unmet community needs. VIP Fellows will: 1. Develop and implement a volunteer program; 2. Recruit and train community members as volunteers for programs that support children, youth, and families; 3. Track volunteer program and infrastructure development at the Partner Site; 4. Serve side-by-side with volunteers to provide guidance, to better understand the clients needs, and to improve the volunteer experience; 5. Participate in all program required trainings and development opportunities, including orientation, two statewide and two regional trainings. The VIP program provides comprehensive training in volunteer development and community outreach. Service Description : VIP Fellows will increase the number of volunteers providing needed services to children, youth and families who face economic hardship in the community. Additionally, VIP Fellows will build capacity within the Placement Site volunteer program to provide the support, skills and resources volunteers need to be successful. The Americorps VIP serving with the Return of the Natives Restoration Education Project (RON) of the Watershed Institute at California State University Monterey Bay will coordinate K-12, university and community volunteers providing environmental service and environmental education opportunities in the Monterey Bay region. The VIP working with RON will be an integral member of the region�s oldest and most comprehensive habitat restoration programs. The VIP will recruit program volunteers online, with social media, and especially in CSU Monterey Bay service learning classes. Once volunteers are recruited, the VIP member will provide an orientation and training for each volunteer and will maintain the necessary paperwork. The VIP will organize volunteer reflection activities and recognition events and will assist in finding/writing grants for RON programs. The VIP will work with RON team in training classroom teachers and adults as they gain confidence working with children in nature. And, the VIP will work with younger service volunteers in hands-on restoration programs in local parks and natural areas. The Americorps VIP will continue a new environmental service and leadership program for high school students in Salinas. It is possible that the VIP will coordinate volunteers in school and community gardens. Experience teaching in outdoor situations, in habitat restoration, and SPANISH speaking skills extremely helpful.
