Controller/Accounting Manager Job Opening in Lihue, Hawaii - Functions as the property's strategic financial business leader. Develops, implements and monitors accounting and financial strategies that support achievement of the hotel?s goals. Responsible for all finance activities related to budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss reporting and balancing ledgers for operating and balance sheet accounts. Oversees all accounting activities related to income auditing, cashiering, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable collection, tax compliance, payroll and month end processing so as to ensure financial controls, accurate reporting and hotel profitability.
Reviews and analyzes business strategies throughout the hotel to ensure alignment with the hotel?s financial objectives. Analyzes information, forecasts sales against expenses and creates multi-entity budget plans.
Manages the financial and accounting functions related to the Hotel Rental Program in accordance with the Individual Agency Rental Agreement.
Actively serves of the hotel?s Executive Committee. Advises the GM and executive committee on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.
Implements control systems to manage business risks. Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, and improve operations and profitability.
Maintains checkbook accounting system for all departments to determine purchase approvals and manage spending limits
Provides direction and training to the operational department managers in areas related to finance, financial reports, internal controls, labor management, payroll, etc.
Completes month end close to include ensuring that adjusted journal entries and accruals are posted. Reviews preliminary P & Ls with respective departments for additional adjusting entries in order to ensure financial results are available by the established deadline.
Coordinates the hotel?s capital expense budget and reconciling expenditures
Oversees the timely and accurate semi-monthly payroll processing, including time edits, tip declaration, and gratuity distributions in compliance with state and federal labor laws
Reviews ledger details to validate proper payment and revenue postings
Provides direction to the night audit team so as to ensure proper revenue reporting
Monitors all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued and that all tax returns are paid and filed timely.
Participates in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and performance management of Accounting staff as appropriate. Includes but is not limited to ensuring new hires receive the appropriate training to successfully perform their job. Creates appropriate development plans which develops team members based on their individual strengths, development needs, career aspirations and abilities. Conducts annual performance review process for employees.
