Director of Software Engineering Job Opening in Houston, Texas - W.D. Von Gonten Laboratories, LLC is a state of art rock lab specializing in the analysis of hydrocarbon flow systems and geomechanical properties of low permeability reservoirs. The laboratory has currently processed over 37,000 feet of unconventional core and, along with its sister entity W.D. Von Gonten & Co. (founded in 1995), has the reputation for providing the most widely accepted range of petroleum engineering, geological services, and petrophysical modeling to domestic and international oil and gas companies, midstream companies, and financial institutions. Position Summary
The Director of Software Engineering will provide technical and operational leadership to a mature, multidisciplinary software development team, and will guide the development of complex, mature enterprise software applications. The successful candidate will be able to participate in both deep technical discussions and product strategy discussions, and to liaise effectively between these settings. The successful candidate will be particularly inclined to collaborate with other functional groups, identifying and realizing opportunities to share technology, subject-matter expertise and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree in Business, MIS, or related field, or commensurate level of professional experience
Minimum of 10 years related experience with a thorough and hands-on understanding of the software development lifecycle in waterfall and agile development environments
Strong technical knowledge in at least three of the following technology areas:
Large scale geospatial data architecture and performance optimization
Advanced 3D and/or Geospatial Data Visualization
Data/Application Integration & Process Orchestration
Web & Mobile Applications Design & Development
Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Experience with software configuration management including version control, build management, release planning, large scale deployments and risk management
Familiarity with Physics, Petroleum Engineering or Geophysics will be a major asset
Familiarity with statistical analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence will be a major asset
This is not an ivory tower position. The successful candidate will enjoy white-boarding software architectures and even write code if/when necessary.

Constant sitting and close visual work at desk or computer
Frequent lifting of folders, files, binders and other objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
Occasional bending and stooping to pick up boxes and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
