Fiscal Technician I Job Opening in Charleston, South carolina - Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for a Fiscal Technician I in the Treasurer?s Office. This position is responsible for advising and counseling students on their accounts in The Citadel's billing process including financial aid, registration and room/board in accordance with FERPA. Will be required to research and analyze problems relating to student fees; as well as provide explanations and support documentation for student fees and payment histories. Will serve as backup for departmental deposits, front counter customers and answering main phone line. Assists with the management of web credit card payments through Touch Net and post each payment to individual student accounts. Must be able to reconcile MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express payments daily. Establishes new merchant numbers for credit cards; utilizes Wells Fargo CEO to reconcile daily deposits and compile into a monthly report and will be responsible for contacting the State Treasurer's Office and Comptroller's Office to resolve discrepancies in reports.
Responsible for $4250 Citadel Petty Cash; to include: receiving incoming petty cash requests, review for accuracy and disperse funds in accordance with the Citadel and State Petty Cash Policies and reconcile daily and prepare re-payment requests. Performs student receivable accounting functions to include: processing student payments, accept and process deposits to student accounts from all sources and processes online credit cards, ACH, and checks to the Banner System. Will be responsible for balancing cash against receipts and preparing deposit for pick-up, entering on-line payments into Banner Finance daily and entering all checks through Remote Capture to Wells Fargo.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have either a technical degree or a Bachelor?s degree AND two(2) years? experience in bookkeeping or accounting procedures. Must have working knowledge of payment collection practices and FERPA regulations, working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices. Ability to understand and apply established rules and regulations to maintain financial records. Under supervision of supervisor and Treasurer, employee receives on-the-job training to perform duties and will be cross-trained on all other duties assigned. Employee is expected to apply effective decision-making skills to complete all tasks assigned.
