AWS Cloud Engineer Job Opening in Atlanta, Georgia - Principal Cloud Engineer Ideal Profile (Per Kinect Specifications)

Minimum 7+ yrs experience across the key domains of the AWS Cloud

Architecture (high level across all key factors, includes framework, scalability, resiliency, performance, optimization, automation, etc.)

Infrastructure (Compute, Storage, Network, VPN)

Dev/Ops (CI/CD, Automation, Pipeline systems, tools, languages, workflows, testing)

Security (Across Infra, Apps, DevOps, Cloud providers, etc. includes IAM, Layered Defense, etc.)

Governance/Compliance (HIPPA, PCI, etc., regulatories, standards, industry best practices, etc.)

Most Cloud Engineers will not have all the above. But a suitable engineer will be stronger with at least 2 or 3 areas. And, each cloud engineer should be strong with Governance/Compliance as that is the foundation for a good cloud architecture. For example: someone with AWS Infrastructure and Gov/Compliance is good. Or, DevOps/Automation with Security. Or, Architecture with Gov/Compliance.

Cloud Engineers are both hands one and customer facing so comm skills are essential.

Experience typically shows a clear track record of growing from a Jr to Sr level engineer focused on several key technologies, should have strong hands-on experience with the design, installation, configuration and testing of various tools and technologies

Has a strong basic/fundamentals understanding of the key components of the Cloud Architecture Domains. Able to clearly define each function and the differences between similar tools and technologies and when one is more applicable than the other

They will be able to distinguish the nuances between tools, when it?s better to use certain tools, etc.

Regarding DevOps, Cloud Engineers should be able to articulate how DevOps works, differentiate the key elements, key integration points, but not necessarily how to configure each technology. Should be able to articulate the process how an App goes from conception to production. Able to discuss Kubernetes is good. Has coached DevOps engineers to design or tweek the devOps environment to help improve the overall Cloud Architecture.

BTW, Principal Consultants are on the top of the food chain: AWS charges $800/hr for their PCs. They are the absolute superstars, called in to fix what everyone else could not fix and do it in record time.

Some screening questions:

Understanding Python and Nodejs is great, but what are the best ways to leverage it within AWS Lambda

Is Ansible or Chef an Infrastructure as Code tool? Ans is neither as they are more of a Configuration Management Tools

Why is Ansible not an IaC tool?

What are the top IaC tools? Ans is CloudFormation and Terraform

When would you choose to use CloudFormation over Terraform?

What?s the difference between Configuration Management and Iac?
