Go to for additional information. Responsibilities Assist Area Manager with all land management and timber harvest related functions on 102,000 acres in southwest Louisiana. Position also serves as back up to the Area Manager as well as developmental position to train future Area Managers. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: ? Assist with the preparation of annual silviculture and harvest plans ? Prepares stand level silviculture and thinning prescriptions using inventory, soil/site, research results and field observation data. ? Develops and administers silviculture, road and environmental contracts and associated reporting and mapping. ? Prepares tracts for timber sales and inspects active timber harvest for contract/quality and utilization compliance as applicable. ? Manages both tabular and geographic information systems of standing inventory, collects early plantation performance, seedling survival and GPS data and associated data processing. ? Updates information system for all completed activities. ? Supervises and participates in prescribe burning, wildfire suppression and other asset protection functions as needed. ? Serves as team leader when the Area Manager is unavailable. ? Works on resolution of long term adverse possession occurrences as applicable ? Works with Land Sales Manager to ensure preparation of divestiture parcels ? Frequent communication with contract service labor while monitoring compliance of contract specifications. ? Assist with the administration of recreation leases and other surface lease issues as needed. ? Ensures compliance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative?, endangered species regulations, and Forest Capital internal environmental standards and reporting. ? Work with Area Manager to develop annual goals and objectives, assignments and special projects as needed; provide input in annual technician performance reviews as applicable. Qualifications ? Minimum Bachelor?s degree in natural resource management or related field. Master?s degree in forest science, forest business, or forest economics highly desirable. ? Technically proficient in all areas of resource management. ? Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently with minimal direction ? Highly adaptive and flexible in dealing with issues with little or no control of conditions. ? Thorough understanding of all applicable operating policies and procedures. ? Proficient in spreadsheet, GPS and GIS mapping applications and basic financial analysis. ? Ability to make routine decisions on a regular basis; must have the ability to recognize and address urgent issues and respond with effective solutions in a timely manner. ? Knowledge that issues with significant operational, legal or political consequences are referred to the Area Manager or General Manager as appropriate. ? Has current knowledge of information technology, herbicide, fertilization applications, rates and products. Competent in basic forest financial analysis including calculating net present value and internal rate of return. ? Frequently has internal and external contacts with peers, customers, suppliers, contractors, conservation groups, lease holders and the general public. ? Excellent communication and inter-personal skills required. ? Experience with both office and field operations. Considerable walking during contract administration, quality compliance checking, inventory data collection, stand prescription data collection, surface issues, prescribe burning and various other field tasks. Reporting Relationships Position reports to the Area Manager; when serving as backup to the Area Manager, is responsible for all area related issues.
