Opportunity Overview
The Commercial Credit Underwriter is answerable for providing an independent and all-inclusive written evaluation of designated commercial loans. Works closely with Executives, commercial loan officers and other client bank employees to identify and manage risk on commercial loans up to predetermined limits. The underwriting will support the approval or denial of a client or prospect loan request and appropriate endorsements on structure and risk rating. The Commercial Credit Underwriter safeguards that loans are underwritten to comply with policy and/or are suitably mitigated. Applies understanding of commercial lending principles and technologies to task performed. Works under very limited management and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations.
Opportunity Responsibilities Description
Makes endorsements regarding credit risk rating of commercial relationships and evaluates collateral quality and values.
Analysis will embrace a wide-ranging evaluation of the business and will be utilized by management in approving credit requests. Analysis must suitably summarize the important characteristics of the business including a detailed financial analysis, management competencies, collateral assessment, and guarantor support.
Communicates conclusion dates with line lenders and credit partners. Works to meet agreed upon schedule targets.
Effectively associates with credit platform to advance efficiencies of operation, minimize risk, and expand sales prospects.
Suggestions recommendations to loan officers regarding credit structure and policy compliance.
Works closely with loan officers and may accompany them on customer visits.
Assesses financial statements and completes autonomous written credit evaluations.
Makes recommendations for monitoring relative to risk and policy, including revision to existing covenants.
Underwriting of monitored lines of credit, and periodic monitoring via borrowing base calculations during the life of the loan.
The analysis will identify the crucial strengths and weaknesses of debtor. Analysis may also include an evaluation of the borrower?s industry and position within their corresponding vertical of commerce.
Concludes the annual servicing of current relationships as allocated.
Qualifications & Mandatory Requirements
Three (3) or more years banking experience with accent on financial analysis and/or commercial lending
Ability to listen and respect the opinion of others.
Aptitude to research industry sources needed for credit evaluations.
PC proficiency with Word and Excel
Understanding of financial statement spreading, including proficiency in preparing pro-forma statements within various industry typical software package.
Established ability to make complex decisions regarding business and lending activities.
Strong organization skills
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance and/or corresponding experience
Proven written and analytical skills to encompass an ability to analyze balance sheet structure, and income and cash flow trends on credits up to the legal lending limit of the bank.
Extensive exposure to commercial credit and lending concepts, practices and regulations.
