Director of Accounting and Finance Job Opening in Las Vegas, Nevada - Position Title: Director of Accounting and Finance
Position Description: DISCOVERY Children?s Museum seeks a loyal self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to provide leadership and management for the direction, planning, and execution of the accounting and finance department. The Director of Accounting and Finance is responsible for ensuring that the corporation is in compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations and will execute tactical plans to safeguard assets, oversee risk management, create and oversee internal controls, prepare and report the museum?s attendance, financial condition and audited reports. All accountabilities will be performed in accordance with departmental and company practices, policies and procedures.
This team member is mainly responsible for the successful execution and leadership of the business functions of the organization as it relates to finance and accounting. This will be accomplished by working very closely with the senior leadership team in the development and implementation of short and long term strategic goals for the museum. S/He will develop, implement and monitor the fiscal budget and operational strategies of the museum, develop and report metrics necessary to observe the desired strategic goals including identify and vetting new business opportunities within and outside that align with the museum?s strategic direction. S/He will prepare audit schedules and other audit preparations; assist auditors as needed and prepares the audit in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The position will prepare payroll, oversee cash management, handle accounts receivables, receipts and accounts payable and maintain accurate and informative accounting information through regular review of records and general ledger balances.
The ideal candidate will possess a passion for nonprofit work and find value in service to our community through the work of the museum. S/He will also have excellent customer service, and verbal and written communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s degree in accounting, finance or business administration and at least five years of relevant work experience.
CPA preferred.
Valid Nevada Driver?s License and current personal liability insurance.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Strong knowledge of accounting software.
Strong organizational skills, planning skills, and initiative.
Must possess demonstrated ability for extraordinary problem solving and leadership skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Must possess demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement, ability to be self-directed and organized.
Must possess demonstrated accuracy with the ability to handle fast paced environment with distractions in a friendly and professional manner.
Ability to maintain effective working relationship with staff members and general public.
Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively.
Advanced aptitude of contracting and procurement practices, business law, finance and accounting principles.
Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple multi-faceted projects to a successful conclusion
Must have demonstrated ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge, have initiative and deal with multiple variables.
Must have the ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Must have the ability to work effectively independently as well as with the organizations leadership and develop and cultivate relationships that will yield positive outcomes for all of the organizations lines of businesses.
Will have ability to work flexible schedule at times which may include assignments outside of established office hours, such as weekends or holidays.
Physical activities required include and are not limited to visual acuity and hearing, clear communication of the English language, light and heavy lifting, typing, sitting, bending, walking and standing.
Equipment used includes telephone, fax, copier, computer and related software, calculator, postage equipment, time clocks, and cash registers. Other equipment may be assigned.
