Business Development Officer

Exeter, New hampshire

Business Development Officer Job Opening in Exeter, New hampshire - The business development officer (BDO) at our expanding regional trusts and estates firm will be responsible for cultivating contacts, planning events and seminars, while developing and executing a long-range strategic plan and vision for firm growth and acquisitions alongside its founder.
Our philosophy can be compared to that of a star baseball team ? we are keenly aware that success comes not from "swinging for the fences" all the time, but rather by taking pitches as they come. Our BDO will be like a coach to our team of successful attorneys - setting up plays for them to execute based on an appropriate response to circumstances.
A base hit involves a solid personal referral to a single client. We cultivate referrals by providing excellent service and fostering a sense of community, by marketing campaigns targeted to select audiences.
A double would be the cultivation of a relationship with a business person who is capable of sending multiple clients our way - a good example would be a financial advisor, life insurance agent, stock broker or investment manager. CPAs and bankers are also good referral sources.
A triple might involve the planning of a seminar attended by 20 or more prospects aged 55+.
Finally, a homerun would involve the acquisition of a firm of a retiring attorney with a significant wills and trusts practice.
The business development officer would be in charge of cultivating individual referral clients; networking on the firm's behalf; scheduling a business to business lunch with other advisers who are centers of influence; organizing speaking seminars to targeted groups, and researching potential acquisition targets and conducting exploratory conversations with retiring attorneys from other firms.
The BDO would be responsible for following through on these engagements, tracking results, and measuring impact on the top line revenue for the firm in coordination with our accounting personnel.
Other avenues of business development might include but are not limited to newsletters to existing clients, and a mailing campaign to high net worth households.
The position would involve travel for two or three days per month to our New York and New Jersey offices, though the bulk of the work would be conducted through our Exeter, New Hampshire location. Two or three evenings a month will also likely be required for seminars and entertaining business contacts. Though the position can provide some flexibility in working hours, this is not a work from home or work remotely type job.
The successful candidate will present as a polished professional, and should be capable of interacting with a wide range of potential business contacts. Prior experience in the legal industry is not required but would be a plus. More important still are a winning smile and a can-do attitude. The BDO will work closely with the firm's founder & will be receive substantial on the job training and mentoring.
A bachelors degree is the minimum required. Those with relevant graduate-level degrees will find this to be a rewarding career path as well.
401k plan with match. 4 weeks vacation per year & lots of other perks.
Please include a cover letter with your submission.
