HelpMeSee was founded in 2010 with the mission to end cataract blindness in the developing world by training tens of thousands of cataract specialists to perform a quick (5 minutes), very low cost (less than $50), and high quality procedure which restores sight. It is estimated that 20 million are bilaterally blinded by cataract. HelpMeSee?s goal to assure an ample supply of highly trained cataract specialists to provide this low cost treatment.
HelpMeSee will accomplish its mission and its goals of training tens of thousands cataract specialists through the use of high fidelity, virtual reality eye simulators and sophisticated courseware adapted from commercial aviation pilot training. HelpMeSee also collaborates with and assists existing MSICS specialist already performing this procedure in their communities. With our technology-based programs and local surgical partners HelpMeSee is committed to saving the sight of millions.
JOB SUMMARY
The Regional Director of Major Gifts identifies, engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards current and prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors in engaging and expanding their financial support of the work of HelpMeSee. The Regional Director will be focusing on broadening and building the brand of HelpMeSee and the cultivation and solicitation of the financial institutions and corporations in Manhattan and the surrounding Tri-State area. S/he is responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by building and working with a portfolio of donors and prospects to secure major gift commitments of $25,000 and higher. The Regional Director also assists and supports a team to ensure the consistent and effective implementation of donor cultivation and solicitation strategies to reach the major gift team?s collective revenue goal.
As a member of Leadership Team, s/he works directly to the Senior Director of Development works closely with the CEO as well as board members and other volunteer leadership. S/he collaborates with colleagues in development operations, membership, high-level giving, and communications. It is important to understand that this is not an ?office job.? Rather, s/he will spread the vast majority of time meeting and arranging to meet prospects in the field at their places of business to provide succinct, professional, and informative presentation on HelpMeSee?s work and why they should join in ending blindness caused by cataract.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and execute personalized solicitation strategies for each donor/prospect, including financial institutions and corporations in the greater New York area (Tri-State area), in building a portfolio with information about specific initiatives, coordinating each task, and establishing target dates for each purposeful action; track activities and information in CRM.
Collaborate with staff in other departments, to create customized solicitation plans and proposals matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the donor or prospect.
Prepare and conduct donor briefings for Senior Management assigned visits or solicitations.
Effectively support the major gifts team, including assistance with donor strategies, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through regular performance reviews, guidance, and encouraging training while presenting new techniques and recruiting/hiring staff as needed.
Assist to monitor budgets to align major gifts team resources and programs with organizational goals.
Experienced and persistent in face to face solicitation, cold calls and drop ins at their place of work to secure face to face appointments.
Identify high potential prospects and participate in their solicitation as necessary.
Assist in the implementation and management of various campaigns, including managing campaign prospect lists, prospect research, prospect tracking and soliciting campaign gifts, along with recruiting and managing campaign volunteers.
Build and maintain a portfolio of 150 current and prospective major donors with a focus on $25,000 level gifts and above.
Conduct a significant number of qualified contacts per month with donors and prospects to form and strengthen relationships for long-term.
Prepare personalized materials for face-to-face meetings or other donor interactions.
Meet minimum annual fundraising goal, as specified in annual budget and work plan, including both unrestricted revenue targets.
Write reports following donor contact; record and enter contact reports and other information about donors in CRM.
Assist with and drive planning of ongoing donor cultivation and engagement strategies using opportunities such as small cultivation events and volunteer meetings.
Drive implementation of prospect discovery and qualification system; contacting and qualifying high-capacity prospects identified through screenings.
Define and monitor a set of performance metrics to evaluate major gift program success including portfolio potential, strategies, and execution.
Coordinate bi-annual review of the major gift team portfolio.
Stay current with major gift trends and best practices, using industry data to make strategic decisions.
Enthusiastically participate in department meetings, organization-wide meetings and activities, and staff committees.
Perform other fundraising duties and special projects in support of the HelpMeSee mission, as needed, as a member of the Leadership Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor?s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of significant high value face to face sales or fundraising experience. Or an appropriate combination of education and at least 10 years of relevant experience in sales in a confidential environment to a sophisticated audience, will be considered.
Direct pharmaceutical sales or similar sales background is preferred.
History of closing five and six-figure gifts or sales/ marketing accounts, including the ability to evaluate, qualify and move prospects through the identification, cultivation and solicitation cycle.
Experience interacting with high-net worth individuals and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Previous supervisory experience of gift officers desired, including assisting with strategies and helping track metrics.
Excellent communication skills coupled with strong writing and presentation skills.
Understanding and knowledge of budgeting processes.
Understanding of gift procedures, including restrictions and donor crediting.
Proficiency with donor database/CRM applications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
High-energy level, flexible and self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and supervise a team.
Excellent planning and organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently, outside of normal work hours, to meet donors and attend functions; amount varies depending on portfolio.
