Nurse Practitioner Job Opening in West Columbia, South carolina - Function:
Applies advanced knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage the healthcare of acute and chronically ill persons. Examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery is provided for people with acute, episodic, and/or chronic medical conditions.
Responsibilities:
1. Exercises skills of healthcare provider, educator, consultant, and coach.
2. Focuses on health promotion and ways to reduce the impact of disease.
3. Maintains medical records in an accurate, concise and reviewable manner.
Duties:
1. Performs health histories and physical examinations for acute and chronically ill persons supported.
2. Prescribes medications and authorizes treatments as appropriate.
3. Orders, interprets and follows up on lab tests and results.
4. Performs selected procedures and documents findings and care both orally and in writing. Initiates emergency interventions as indicated, and recognizes abnormalities that justify immediate referral for interventions by others.
5. Initiates, evaluates, reviews and changes orders for selected medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments within approved protocols.
6. Represents Babcock Center in professional and community activities, cooperates with, and acts as a liaison with other disciplines to provide services to persons supported.
7. Ensures that proper documentation is kept and filed.
8. Ensures needed medical supplies and equipment are ordered and available in the health care clinic as needed.
9. Provides education and teaching, communication and support for persons supported, their families and staff as appropriate.
10. Participates in policy planning for care of supported persons.
11. Provides input into health-related policies and procedures as appropriate..
12. Provides timely written reports of data/statistics of individuals seen at the times requested, and researches information, topics etc. as requested.
13. Promotes effective working conditions and relationships with administration, other disciplines, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the facility.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Sr. Director of Clinical Services.
