Job summary
The Accountant position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
The Accountant will have contact with different levels of management which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Others may be assigned.
Prepare the lobby daily by wiping down patient chairs, preparing coffee, and turning on the TV/Radio
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure of multiple entities
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
Assist the Controller in the daily banking requirements.
Ensure the daily cash reports are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
Supports budget and forecasting activities.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Work with the external auditors to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Support the Director with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Manage and coordinate financial activities for operating subsidiaries, including and not limited to: monthly close process, general accounting, consolidations, financial reporting, account reconciliations, tax and audit schedules, accruals, deferrals, asset capitalization, depreciation, and amortization.
Minimum requirements
Education-Bachelor of Accounting
Prior Experience-Five to seven years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area. Experience working in healthcare and public accounting is a plus
Technical Skills-Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting of current accounting principles and procedures, and tax laws in Excel and Word, PowerPoint, QuickBooks, and Great Plains experience a plus-Possess strong organizational and time management skills-Strong data analysis, problem solving, research and resolution skills-Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing-Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
Working Environment / Location of Position / Abilities required
Must be able to work in sitting position & use computer
Ability to travel
Includes ability to walk through hospital-based departments across broad campus settings, including Emergency Department environments
