While the purpose of this position is related to animal health care, any applicant being considered will be judged greatly on their customer service skills. If we cannot communicate effectively to the client about their pet?s health, we cannot provide the best care for the pet. This position is physically demanding, so each applicant must judge his/her own physical fitness by the following job description.

If the initial interview goes well, you will be asked to participate in one or two working interviews here at the clinic for 2-4 hours each. We will do our best to schedule these at convenient times for you.
Job Overview
Physically restraining all breeds and sizes of dogs, cats, and some exotics with appropriate restraint methods during examination and treatment. Assisting the doctors and veterinary technicians in any capacity needed, including euthanasia situations.
Preparing needed vaccines, diets, and prescriptions as needed by the doctor. Learning about the that we vaccinate against. Attention to detail is mandatory.
Maintaining general cleanliness of the entire clinic, including lobby, exam rooms, treatment area, hospital compartments, and boarding runs / compartments. Cleaning duties are a priority of health care assistants. We do not allow any pet to stay in a soiled compartment.
Educating clients about preventative healthcare such as vaccinations and parasite prevention, and communicating with clients on the health status of hospitalized patients when the doctor is unavailable. Training will be provided.
Feeding and exercising the pets kept in the boarding facility.
Performing some laboratory tests, such as fecal analysis, urinalysis, heartworm testing and inhouse blood panels.
Maintaining electronic medical records, scheduling appointments, and completing financial transactions through our practice management software (Cornerstone). A working knowledge of computers is needed. While experience with Cornerstone software is helpful, specific training will be provided.
Qualifications for Veterinary Assistant
Must be available for the hours specified. This includes evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The clinic hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. There are also rotating shifts to care for pets in the boarding kennel on Saturdays at 5pm, and Sundays/holidays at 8:00am and 5:00pm. All medical staff are required to work shifts in the boarding kennel. We do our best to rotate responsibilities, so that everyone gets some weekends/holidays off.
Applicants must possess physical stamina and strength. You must be able to stand for long periods of time. Applicants must be physically able to manipulate a 40 lb. pet to a waist-high table and then properly restrain that pet during a physical exam/treatment. Proper restraint includes the ability to safely manage physically stressful situations that may arise with the pets in the exam room or treatment areas. Applicants must also be able to manipulate their fingers into a ?scruff? arrangement in order to effectively restrain cats during when needed.
Applicants must be literate in the English language, and demonstrate professional verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer literacy is also required.
Applicants are responsible for their own transportation arrangements. Tardiness will not be tolerated.
The clinic environment can be hectic, and mistakes can be life-threatening. Therefore, applicants must demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
Applicants must provide a consistently positive, supportive, and caring environment for clients, other team members, and pets.
Applicants must be dependable and willing to adapt to the immediate needs as they occur in a small, team-oriented environment. This includes occasionally being called in to work on days scheduled off with short notice as well as staying past your departure time when needed.
Continuing education is required for all staff. This may occasionally involve attending classes or seminars outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
Applicants that are hired will be required to wear the company uniform. Uniform shirts are provided at company expense, but employees are required to provide their own khaki pants and appropriate close-toed footwear.
Falcon Valley Animal Hospital reserves the right to ask that earrings be worn in ears only with a limit of 2 earrings per ear. Other visible piercings are to be without jewelry during working hours. Tattoos are required to be covered during working hours.
