The Health Data Analyst constructs spreadsheets, reports and graphs that include information on trends in customer service, billing, cost evaluation, quality measures, compliance and efficiency. These reports provide statistical data used as a source for determining which adjustments and changes to implement. Much of the analyst's daily activities focus on statistics, including analyzing a variety of data. The Health Data Analyst focuses on how patient data corresponds to larger trends for the method of treatment. This position will assist in the gathering, compiling, modeling, validating, and analyzing data. Additionally the Health Data Analyst will use patient data to monitor quality of care or to track trends in a particular disease and its treatment and costs. This analysis includes compliance with industry, payer and organization defined quality measures.
Requirements
Analytical Skills:
Must be able to work with large amounts of data including facts, reports, figures, and number crunching.
Must be able to extract data and analyze it for accuracy, trends, or exceptions.
Communication Skills:
Must be able to present findings, or translate the data into an understandable document. * Must be able to write and speak clearly, easily communicating complex ideas. * Must possess strong communication skills in both spoken and written mediums and be able to communicate to all levels.
May require making public presentations. * Must be able to translate reporting requirements into data collection requirements and diagrams. * Must be able to effectively communicate to all levels of staff within an organization. * Must alert management of identified at the earliest opportunity.
Critical Thinking:
Must be able to review the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.
Must be able to ?think out of the box? as it relates to data collection needs. * Must be able to honestly report deficiencies found during reviews.
Attention to Detail:
Must be able to accurately analyze data and ensure a high-level of attention to detail.
Reporting Skills:
Must be fluent in MS Excel. * A working knowledge of BI reporting tools (BridgeIT, Cognos, eBO, Business Objects, SAS) is preferred.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in a related field preferred: Health Information Management or Health Informatics degree * Knowledge of medical terminology * AHIMA CHDA certification * Biostatistics experience * SQL query skills * 2+ years of data analysis experience * Experience on a healthcare, medical, Medicare, Medicaid, clinical or pharmaceutical project.
