Senior Accountant Job Opening in Fresno, California - JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective Reporting to the President and CEO, the Senior Accountant oversees, manages, performs and reports monthly on the financial activities of United Way of Fresno and Madera Counties (United Way) including banking, 990 tax and regulatory compliance, accounting and reporting, Information Systems, planning, budgeting and credit and collections. The Senior Accountant also supports the CEO in managing risk, insurance, implements cost-saving measures and actively contributes to United Way?s financial health.
Essential Functions

Provides management and leadership to all accounting/finance staff members of United Way. Responsible for accurate and timely performance of all tasks by United Way staff.
Works with and is very familiar with the United Way MIP and Andar software systems, and responsible for researching and recommending upgrades as applicable to United Way?s accounting and record keeping software when necessary.
Monitors and oversees United Way cash, deposits, payroll, payables and receivables.
Maintains separate accounts for all fiduciary obligations of United Way and provides separate accounting for all such fiduciary relationships.
Supports the CEO and Board of Directors, as well as other senior managers of United Way.
Maintains consistent communication with the Board Treasurer.
Performs monthly and annual closings, and prepares year end workpapers for the outside accountant?s audit.
Provides other financial reports and information to the CEO as requested.
Assures compliance with regulatory and tax requirements and reporting, including full compliance of all financial reporting to GAAP and timely filing of the 990 Tax Returns.
Oversees proper recordkeeping procedures, including United Way record retention and destruction policies.
Oversees banking and/or lender reporting requirements as necessary.
Provides accurate and timely financial projections to improve strategic planning decision making on the part of the CEO and Board of Directors.
Manages budgeting processes as applicable.
Coordinates internal reporting as required by senior managers of various divisions within the United Way.
Implements internal control policies with a focus on protection of United Way assets.
Supports the risk management process for United Way with the CEO including assisting with management of insurance coverages, structure, deductibles, claims and liability.
Assists the CEO and Resource Development Directors as requested in United Way business development efforts.
Oversees United Way 401K, employee health benefits and other employee benefits. Provides communication for employees as required by law and United Way policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Expertise
Bachelor?s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field of study
Minimum 3 years? experience including supervision of staff experience.
Effective time management meeting deadlines and being accountable for professional performance and the performance of subordinates.
Strong working of Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and other standard Microsoft programs.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises all members of the finance department.
