Project Accountant Job Opening in Portland, Oregon - DKS Associates is an employee owned Transportation Engineering & Planning firm with a vision of Shaping a Smarter Transportation ExperienceTM. We are seeking a Project Accounting expert to join our team here at DKS Associates.
This position will be responsible for supporting financial administration of projects and acting as a bridge between multiple internal groups. Key tasks include setting up projects, performing project billing, managing revenue recognition, monitoring cash receipts, and consistently applying company accounting standards. In addition, the position includes responding to DKS Associates staff inquiries about billing and project accounting. Ensuring a commitment to teamwork and collaboration through consistent and professional behaviors.
We are relocating the Finance team to join the Corporate headquarters in Portland, OR from the San Francisco Bay Area. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and our Director of Finance as we make these changes to have our corporate team in one location.
What will you be doing?
Perform monthly project billing process for multiple offices.
Effectively communicate with Project Managers and Project Admins, regarding contract documents, project set-up, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
Respond to and resolve any internal staff questions about billing.
Prepare draft and final invoice packages containing invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for approval by the Project Manager.
Research any unbilled issues to optimize the billing possibilities for the billing period.
Maintain the billing files for all projects, with all the appropriate documents in accordance with standard procedures.
Support the A/R process including reconciling variances that occur in the application of cash.
Set up new projects, make transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and open and close projects, phases and tasks in company system.
Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the billing cycle.
Prepare special project analyses for the PMs and others.
Perform additional assignments as directed.
What are we looking for?
Associates degree in business or accounting. Minimum of five years of experience in project billing and receivables, with at least two years in an architecture or engineering environment preferred. Additional years of experience may substitute for educational requirements.
Proven ability to work collaboratively on a team.
Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to communicate with various levels of staff and management.
A thorough knowledge of standard contract terms, including hourly, fixed-price, not-to-exceed, local taxes, and how they are applied in the billing process
Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion
Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities. Organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.
Highly accurate and organized.
Desired skills and technologies:
Technical capacity and strong skills with Excel, database applications and other software applications.
Deltek/Vision 7.0 experience preferred
