Job Summary
The Sales/Applications Engineer reports to the VP of Sales and is responsible for sales/applications engineering throughout Asian territories. The Sales/Applications Engineer must establish and maintain an outstanding rapport with customers, end users, researchers, and educators in the fields of precision engineering and ultra-precision manufacturing.
The position requires efficient planning of schedules to incorporate a balance of time in the office and in the field visiting customers, agents/distributors, and attending relevant exhibitions and conferences.
Core
Participate in the development of annual sales forecasts, department expense budgets, and the company?s strategic plan.
Proactively assist in meeting order targets, market share, revenue, working capital, profit, and quality goals jointly established in budget and strategic planning exercises.
Establish forecasts, goals and objectives, assist in the preparation of sales and operating budgets. Actively monitor results to improve profitability while supporting strategic business direction.
Coordinate and provide ongoing training for agent sales teams and support agent sales activities; requiring regular visits to Asia.
Evaluate requests from potential customers for applications support and determine feasibility, requirements, costs, timing, and priority.
Maintain frequent contact with existing and potential customers and/or distributors to determine future commercial needs, formulate the basis of technical proposals, and promote our products and engineering expertise. Develop sales forecasts accordingly.
Organize and prepare quotations to agents and to customers. The implementation of quotation logs and a follow up strategy must also be developed. The provision and presentation of technical proposals is also expected, and the efficient dissemination of information in both directions during the entire sales process.
Review customer purchase orders and other contractual terms to insure compliance with the needs of the organizations.
Finalize technical proposals and contracts with potential customers/agents.
Provide ongoing application knowledge and support to customers and agents and coordinate support from Engineering and or Applications Departments.
Interface with managers, engineers, and technicians of the other business units to help coordinate overall sales and marketing activities.
Assist in the creation of new marketing communications initiatives, including newsletters, web site updates, brochures, product application data sheets, advertisements, etc.
Assess market and provide input to new product development activities to ensure future growth in market niches.
Take leadership in for, setting up, and participating in regional shows and exhibitions.
Maintain and update customer database.
Stay abreast of new technologies, developments within the industry, economic conditions, etc.
Carry out applications studies in conjunction with other members of the team and create detailed applications reports.
Recommend, organize, and represent the company at relevant trade shows and conferences.
Education and Experience
Experience in a sales role within the machine tool or related industry is preferred, with previous exposure to precision engineering, optical manufacturing or tool and mold sectors a plus.
Knowledge of internal business practices in Asia.
A Bachelor?s Degree and/or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering discipline is preferred.
